BUILD NYC's Why We Work series aims to explore the motivations, passions, and career journeys of individuals within our business coach community, and experience what a work day at their business looks like. For our inaugural session, NYC coach Aaron Wiggs took students from I AM High School in Canarsie, Brooklyn to his workplace, iconic streetwear brand SUPREME New York. The workshop included a private store tour, interactive design conversation and feedback session, followed by a debrief in Domino Park over one of NYC's best local franchises, Joe's Pizza. A perfect New York City day! Video by @KeithN'Dong. #BUILDNYC #WhyWeWork #CareerJourney

Connecting brands and creators seamlessly in one platform | Looking for A-Players to join our team! | CEO stylink
What are the moments in my career that make me most proud? Honestly, it’s every time I trace back the evolution of stylink. Why? Because scaling isn’t just a concept from marketing books. It's a tangible experience. 📈 For me, establishing a company was never solely focused on the headcount; instead, it was about nurturing a community, providing opportunities, and crafting a workplace where everyone thrives independently. Therefore, witnessing our team grow, hiring talented individuals, and seeing the company thrive with each addition has been nothing short of remarkable. It is truly my biggest pride! Today, stylink is more than just a business; it's a platform for growth, innovation, and shared success. Scaling dreams have become a reality, and the journey continues to inspire me daily. When Brothers Fight: A Corporate Fable of Sibling Rivalry Gone Wild Once upon a time in the land of Startupville, there were two brothers: #Innovative Ian and #Marketing Mike. They founded "Bro-lliant Ideas Inc.", a #company that was supposed to revolutionize the way people tie their shoelaces (because apparently, that's still a problem in 2024). At first, things were great. Ian came up with ideas faster than a squirrel on espresso, while Mike sold them with the charm of a used car #salesman who actually believes in his #product. But then, trouble brewed faster than their office's overworked coffee machine. It started small. Ian wanted bean bags; Mike insisted on ergonomic chairs. Ian proposed a four-day workweek; Mike countered with "How about we work eight days a week?" (He'd been listening to too much Beatles). The breaking point? The company logo. Ian wanted a minimalist #design that looked like a shoelace tying itself. Mike pushed for a mascot - a buff anthropomorphic shoe named "Lace-y McTie-Face". Soon, the office became a battleground. Nerf gun wars escalated to full-blown pranks. Ian's prototype shoelaces mysteriously ended up tied to Mike's car bumper. Mike retaliated by replacing Ian's shampoo with shoe polish. Employees started taking sides. Team Ian wore Velcro shoes. Team Mike sported boots with zippers. The #HR #manager just wore slip-ons and cried in the supply closet. As the brothers bickered, their competition, "Shoe-per Dooper Laces," swooped in and cornered the market with their groundbreaking "laces that tie themselves" #technology. In the end, Bro-lliant Ideas Inc. tanked faster than you can say "bunny ears loop-de-loop". The moral of the story? When brothers fight, the only winner is the guy selling tickets to the show. Remember, folks: in business, keep your friends close, your enemies closer, and your sibling rivals in separate departments - preferably on different continents. #SiblingRivalry #StartupLife #CorporateDrama #LeadershipLessons #BrotherlyLove?

#herstory — One of my favorite movies is Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. It reminds me to believe in possibility, that every moment promises magic and transformation. That’s the certainty I had when I opened my first Benjamin Moore retail location in East Los Angeles. At Studio D Contract Finishes LLC we do three things: we sell paint, we create jobs, and we build community. It’s not just about selling paint; it’s about fulfilling dreams, both mine and everyone who enters. As an entrepreneur, I get to share this dream every day. Our store isn’t just a business; it’s a beacon of hope. We offer transitional employment to justice-impacted individuals, aged-out foster youth, and veterans. Just like Willy Wonka’s factory transformed the hearts and minds of those who entered, our paint transforms more than just walls. Studio D is the leading community-driven paint retailer, fostering economic growth, empowering individuals through meaningful employment, and transforming spaces with quality Benjamin Moore products. Whether it’s a homeowner selecting a single gallon or a community beautification project, Studio D is here to serve. Each can of paint holds the potential for new beginnings and fresh starts. We’ve seen firsthand how a fresh coat of paint can uplift spirits and bring new life to spaces. Every color story represents a step towards building a stronger, more vibrant community. We’re committed to building the business acumen of contractors and entrepreneurs. Hosting the monthly 3rd Saturday events is all about growth, learning, networking and economic impact. Opening Studio D has been a journey of passion and perseverance. I’m incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received and excited for the future. “This is how we roll” is more than a tagline—it’s tattooed on our hearts. Include us in your next paint project. Together, we can continue to create magic, one gallon at a time. #Painter #entrepreneur #howtoopenastorefront #paintretailer #paintprojects National Association of Minority Contractors | Southern California Chapter Black Business Association Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses - SoCal NAWBO-LA Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce Southern California Minority Supplier Development Council (SCMSDC)

Given the accelerating pace of business today, it’s easy to focus on the transactional. However, we can’t lose sight of the fact that anticipating, understanding, and meeting the needs of our customers is always relational. At '47, we have some of the most loyal and discerning customers—sports fans, for whom team pride is a part of their identity. We share that same spirit, which we express in our fundamental values: “undeniable attention to detail for 75 years,” “passion for quality materials,” and “every stitch counts.” These aren’t just slogans–they are integral to every piece of sports apparel, accessory, and fan wear we sell. The same holds true in our relationships with vendors. They are key partners in helping us deliver on our brand promise with incredible attention to detail, from team colors and logos to high-quality fabrics. That’s why I resonate with the words of Reggie Yativ, CRO of Incredibuild. In a recent Forbes article he described vendors as “an invaluable asset.” As he wrote, “This involves valuing the aspirations of the other party—something that can be done by taking the time to thoroughly comprehend their competitive landscape, industry challenges, and support needs.” Vendor relationships are a two-way street. We listen to and learn from each other, in collaboration and cooperation—and always with a focus on delighting the customer. https://lnkd.in/gGhF3Wsy

Why do most businesses fail? I had the pleasure of asking Joe Foster, co-founder of Reebok this question. He broke it down to these reasons: 👉 they don’t get in the market fast enough 👉 mis-manage cash and run out 👉 you need to have fun doing it. Business is hard and the only thing that will keep you going is if you’re enjoying the process of building. Full interview with Joe Foster can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eKXUZJ-E

As an entrepreneur, the concept of 'Slow down to Speed up' has been a challenge for me. I thrive in the hustle and bustle, finding energy in the day-to-day operations. Amidst this excitement, there is significant pride for the growth journey we're on at First Retail Group, and for the PEOPLE by my side (even in my absence) who share my passion. Perfectly captured in this video for the recent opening of Levi's. 🚀 Despite the challenges posed by a global pandemic, we have expanded exponentially, growing from 2 to 15 brands over the past decade. As we step into 2024, I'm making a conscious effort to shift my focus from working IN the business to working ON it. I am dedicating my time to empowering and strengthening our team, refining our strategic foundations, and preparing to tackle new ventures with vigor and purpose. And don't worry, you'll still find me spending afternoons in our stores, because some things never change! 😉 #growth #passion #strategicleadership

We are so excited about our Minority Vendor Showcase on February 28th at Hyatt Regency Crystal City. We are going to be highlighting some of our amazing business owners who will be joining us. Reborn Apparel Reborn Apparel is a self-owned black business that creates clothing and accessories reflecting the ideals of constantly improving every aspect of your life to become the best version of yourself. The story behind the brand is simply a life-long journey. Every day we are given chances and choices. Since I was 15 years old, I have worked plenty of jobs starting with lawn care work during hot summers. I have always been drawn to earning money for myself, so I could buy what I need or want without needing assistance. Growing up in a single parent household has made an effect on who I have become today, as I observed my mother keeping the household balanced independently. Doing it all by yourself can be very difficult, but keeping faith and reminding yourself why you must remain strong can make any goal worth working for. As I got older, I realized before the C19 pandemic that I no longer desired to be an employee. I wanted to take control of my own income and build for a brighter future, so I decided to look inwards and develop a plan. I've always enjoyed painting and art, so I began brainstorming designs that could hold deeper meanings behind them to influence and connect to others. The goal was to jump in head first, build a strong foundation and learn more as I progress. I knew building a business would not be easy, but I insisted on fueling my passions. “In life I believe you must think freely and be intentional on the goals you want to achieve. Your growth will come from developing and adapting to beneficial changes once you step outside of your comfort zone. Learn from and enjoy every moment of the journey, as you will become familiar with your own perceptions of failure and success.” Register now and join us in celebrating diversity and entrepreneurship Register now: https://lnkd.in/eY5WxPuQ @AEDBizLaunch @hyattregencycrystalcity #lovenationallanding #ChangeStartsHereHyatt #MVShowcaseHyatt #ArlingtonVA #BlackBusiness #CelebrateBlackExcellence #FoodFuelFitnessFun! #HRCCVendorFair #HyattCares #HyattRegency #InAHyattWorld #HyattWorldOfCare #blackowned #blackownedbusiness #smallbusiness #blackgirlmagic #supportblackbusiness #entrepreneur #supportsmallbusiness #blacklivesmatter #beauty #handmade #blackentrepreneurs #girlboss #blackentrepreneur #business #shoplocal #womeninbusiness #shopsmall
