A few years back, I helped create Kamloops first parklet with the Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce. The City of Kamloops is now embracing parklets and has created formal guidelines for businesses looking to create a lil' vibe in their neighborhood, which we help advise on. These mini-parks enhance our community by promoting interactions between visitors and locals, enriching the urban experience. Mount Shepherd Retreat Center has a number of assets including a fully functioning commercial kitchen, 100 beds (1 person/1 night), 500+ acres of land and a staff that operates both year round overnight retreat activity and a seasonal overnight summer camp program that runs June-August. My first initiative is to implement a structure for achieving organizational goals. We have an established mission statement, but now we are working to turn that mission into a vision and strategy, so that we can achieve clear goals on a routine basis. I have decided to implement the Objective and Key Results structure at Mount Shepherd and we are working to schedule an on site workshop to refine those OKRs! 💡 Midweek Matters: Are you a Brick Layer or a Cathedral Builder?💡 In the hustle and bustle of the workweek, it's easy to get caught up in the daily grind. But amidst the flurry of tasks and deadlines, it's crucial to pause and reflect on the mindset we bring to our work. ✨ Story Time: Shifting Perspectives ✨ There's an old story that helps explain the difference between whether someone has an owner versus an employee mindset. Imagine you're walking down the street and seeing three masons working on a pile of bricks. You go up to each one and ask them what they're doing, and you get three different answers in response. 👷♂️ When you ask the first man, he says he is simply laying bricks. "I'm earning money for my family," he says. 👷♀️ The second man sets his sights higher: He tells you he is building a wall. 👷♂️ When the third man speaks, he tells you he is building a cathedral. This is someone with a vision who is committed to something bigger than himself. There's nothing inherently right or wrong about these answers, right? But they give you more context for how each person perceives their work. The question you need to answer isn't when it comes to your team, how many bricklayers do you have, and how many cathedral builders? 🌟 The Challenge: Cultivating Cathedral Builders 🌟 As leaders, our responsibility lies in fostering an environment where cathedral builders thrive. It's not about the number of bricklayers on our team but the abundance of visionary minds dedicated to building something extraordinary.
