Veteran Housing Corp applauds all efforts to build affordable housing but would challenge the US Congress and every local, state, and federal housing agency or affordable housing developer to do better in 2024 and beyond. Veteran Housing Corp demands permanent affordability for all projects receiving government funding, subsidies, tax credits, or other incentives! Veteran Housing Corp demands transparency and every local, state, and federal government agency and other stakeholders MUST provide answers to questions about the housing projects that are built with government funding, subsidies, tax credits, or incentives, including the following: 1. How much funding, federal tax credits, or government benefits or incentives from all government sources did the projects receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants will not be displaced after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development AGREES THAT adopting FINLAND'S MODEL OF ERADICATING HOMELESSNESS may be of great value to resolving the affordable housing and homelessness crises in America https://lnkd.in/gkSZWYRU
2024 is off to a fantastic start for the HUD Office of Community Planning and Development. We put out a proposed rule to update CDBG - our signature program, which is turning 50 this year - and heard some good preliminary feedback at the US Conference of Mayors. Highlights include making it easier to do economic development and bricks and mortar construction. Please comment by March 11th. Link in comments. Do you believe community advocates are enabling housing affordability for the masses? The recent YIMBYtown Conference in Austin has reignited the critical debate on housing affordability in Texas. There's been a growing divide between the Yes In My Backyard movement and traditional NIMBY perspectives, discussing zoning regulations and Texas HB14. We believe this certainly presents an opportunity to reassess current approaches in urban development. Additionally, Judge Glock's shared insights underscoring the urgency of meeting housing demand through streamlined permitting processes. Texas State Representative, Cody Vasut, believed the state needs to rethink single-family zoning. However, groups like Community Powered ATX thought it was critical to highlight the risks of unchecked development. What are your thoughts about the near-future outcomes? 🎙️ Antonio S. #UrbanDevelopment #AffordableHousing #TexasHousing #YIMBY #NIMBY #Multifamily

Mention Kansas City, Missouri to anyone today and images of world-famous BBQ, Championship Sports, and a budding public romance all contribute to the reputation of a city on the rise. In a less public way, we’ve been transforming a historical and socially diverse corner of this Midwestern town … one Neighborhood, one Project and one Family at a time. A New View on Life is story about Affordable Housing - A niche segment of the real estate market where demand continues to grow, while supply is projected to shrink. While this might sound like a recipe for investor frenzy, it’s actually a cautionary tale … for those that pursue HUD’s mission to provide “decent, safe and sanitary housing” should not underestimate or oversimplify its complexities. https://lnkd.in/grt4yK4F 4Sight Construction Group #affordablehousing #kansascity #lihtc #section8

The architecture of the majority of the USA is, in fact dystopian since one of the most effective, healthy, and inexpensive forms of transportation is effectively architected away: #walking. The only halfway decent solution is buy your walk into a walkable community, i.e. greenways, beach trails, etc, but it requires upper middle class wealth. https://lnkd.in/dTVHz8WA

I am deeply privileged to be part of the project 'Housing the Nation: Social Equity, Architecture, and the Future of Affordable Housing' alongside my wonderful colleague, Dean Draznin. Curated by the visionary minds of Alexander Gorlin, and Victoria Newhouse, this groundbreaking book serves as a rallying cry, uniting a chorus of intellectuals, activists, humanitarians and designers to look closely at America's dire affordable housing dilemma. Brace yourselves as we embark on a mission to thrust this critical issue into the spotlight and spark urgent action. We are just getting started.. https://lnkd.in/eych4sMm

This year's artwork was created by local San Jose artist, Rayos Magos. He brought our vision to life while showcasing many of our shared values including a commitment to social justice, housing as a human right, and being rooted in community. AHM is the time to bring people together so that we can all transform our communities into more diverse, affordable, equitable, and accessible places to live — which brings us to this year’s theme of #4Us4You4All, recognizing that our well-being is tied to the well-being of our neighbors. In 2024, we are leading a transformational region-wide bond measure that works towards housing for everyone in our community. This year is about moving housing affordability beyond the creation of affordable homes for individuals to the realization of stable neighborhoods for whole communities – a vision going beyond housing as a human right to one of healing and restoration for us, for you, and for all. That is why during this year’s Affordable Housing Month, we will be lifting up local partner programming to demonstrate the breadth and depth of the affordable housing ecosystem in Santa Clara County and the strength of our collective work. The future we envision for the Bay Area begins with us. #affordablehousingmonth #ahm2024 #forusforyouforall #affordablehousing #housingjustice
