Hiring in a shrinking market is mainly depending on: 1- Trust or confidence 2- Loyalty 3- Experience & Education 4- Need 1- The hiring entity must have a trust and be confident in the candidate based on a previous experience. 2- The hiring entity must guarantee the Loyalty of the candidate, in hard times as well as in prosperous times. 3- The candidate must have a success history expressing his experience and education. 4- Of course the hiring process is triggered by the need for this particular candidate based on the previous three bases.

Oftentimes clients are surprised that I want to spend time getting to know how they operate, what the company culture is like, what their go to market strategy is, etc., but that’s what makes a great recruiter. It can be difficult to avoid tribalism, a great recruiter can help to keep you aware.
A great recruiter should focus on one industry and within a specific discipline (engineering, sales, finance, etc.,). As you grow, you glean more and more information pertaining to how companies do things, what works, what fails, and this provides a recruiter with unique insights that can be very valuable. Candidate: I applied to your Account Executive role. Manager: That role actually isn't open. Candidate: Then why is it posted? Manager: Well, we wanted to get resumes in case we hire for that role in the future. Candidate: So people are researching, applying, and following up on a position that doesn't exist? Manager: I mean, technically yes. I know you think you're being proactive and helping your company. But you're not. Many candidates perceive this as deceitful. And you're damaging your reputation. I can't even get an interview for a lower level position? Seriously? I get it...overqualified...but I'm applying for a reason. Some companies need to consider taking a chance on the #overqualified! My most recent #rejection: "We believe that you have a strong profile and many qualities. Unfortunately, we're sorry to inform you that you have not been selected for an interview for this position. We fear you won't be able to apply all your added values, as the job level doesn't require the level of your valuable experience." I can't get a role where I'm qualified or over qualified. I just want to #work. I've been working since I was 14 and don't like how this feels. Hiring Manager: We would like to offer your candidate $78k for the sales position. Recruiter: As discussed, they are looking for something that starts with an 8. Hiring Manager: It's the highest we will go. Recruiter: How much does the average sales person generate for you? Hiring Manager: Over 20k per month. Recruiter: So you're saying when this falls through for 2k it'll really cost you at least 20k in revenue? Hiring Manager: What do you mean? Recruiter: It'll actually cost you about 30k... Hiring Manager: What do you mean? Recruiter: The hidden costs of starting this search over again are roughly in the 30k range. If no one is doing the job, the company isn't making money. If you're busy interviewing new candidates, you're not doing parts of your job. Hiring Manager: Well when you say it like that... Recruiter: It's always like that. Moral of the story: Trying to cut corners on salary is a short term gain that will cost long term pain.
