Just reflecting on my time at PropTech Connect (PTC) last week and how much I managed to pack in over two days and three evenings with a great bunch of people where organisers created a fun opportunity to #workhardplay I really enjoyed their inaugural event last year but just looking at who was sponsoring and participating in this one shows how much it has grown: https://lnkd.in/eFZFCYXD https://lnkd.in/e3ht-vpQ There were just so many people there I wanted to catch up with who attended, exhibited and participated in the conference – having asked around there doesn't seem to be a similar event in Europe which is so #proptech focused, being put on at this scale and also with such good food and drink. I got to spend time with the majority of the Digital Buildings Council (DBC) founders in person, as well as meet those interested in joining and partnering. Plus take part in in-depth discussions with stakeholders across the #builtenvironment about the DBC's Working Groups & Best Practice Guides I helped launch in a workshop there which dove into some of the problems they aim to solve not only as part of that workshop and as moderator on a panel, but also as part of all the networking that was possible at PTC: https://lnkd.in/eV9eZwJu https://lnkd.in/eWTVy9PS I have been thinking about not just how much fun the party atmosphere was but also the key takeaways for me. I really liked the idea from Johan Wiksell at JM about lessons learned based on what they wouldn't do again and those not necessarily being the same as what failed. It struck me that those learnings might be something that various stakeholders would share – possibly more so than their successes including the 'happy accidents.' But also how bridging the gap between #digitalconstruction and #digitaloperations is still a much-needed #jobtobedone and that a #digitalsoftlandings framework might be the starting place for collaboration. Thx to Lucas Cusack for coining that term. Maybe that is a theme for next year and I would also like to hear more on #retrofitting given all the stats about how 80% of office buildings will still be in use in 2050. And how many of those are not deemed energy efficient: https://lnkd.in/e3JJUTYu But connected to this, there also being S&G in #ESG, not least because of the difference between Efficient and Effective buildings and the blurring of lines between #smartbuildings and smart workplaces – so perhaps more also on #wellness #employeeengagement #productivity and the role technology is playing in helping with these areas. Lastly, I just wanted to say huge thanks to Terence Burrows, Matthew Maltzoff, Catarina Seabra, Linus Goh, Jordan Corbett, Yorke Christy-Parker and the rest of the PTC team for putting on such a great show and all their support of the DBC, particularly given we only launched in late April: https://lnkd.in/et3WDxc8

Excited to join the #CEEPropertyForum in Vienna for the panel, “Tech-driven real estate – Embracing the proptech evolution,” alongside industry leaders like Jan Hroncak, Katerina Kuliskova, Markus Schmut, Sergii Stoliarchuk, and Artur Łeszczyński. Moderated by Zoltan Kalmar, MBA from ProptechZoom, this conversation will dive into some challenging but essential questions: ➡️ Why has real estate’s tech adoption been historically slow? ➡️ What does it take to create a tech-savvy culture within traditional real estate companies? ➡️ Does digitalization mean a more transparent industry – and is the market really ready for it? I’ll also share insights from our journey at Bright Spaces, where we’re transforming how properties are marketed, explored, and leased with our bespoke #3DDigitalTwin platform. Our platform creates a smoother path from exploration to decision-making and makes property management smarter and more accessible. If you’re in Vienna on November 25-26 and want to discuss how Bright Spaces can streamline your #leasing process, reach out—I’d love to connect! Property Forum Events & News

Today, I had the privilege of being part of the Panel discussions at the API Summit 2024 PropTech Forum, where the overarching topic was, Top-Down Influence: How Technology is Influencing Listed and Private Real Estate. A critical insight emerged: technology brings accountability home. By introducing new data points and enhancing transparency in operations, we empower our teams to take ownership of their roles. However, this increased visibility can also lead to apprehension, many fear that accountability translates to job loss. But here's the reality: instead of viewing tech as a threat, we should embrace it as an opportunity for re-skilling and adding greater value. The property landscape is constantly evolving, influenced by changing legislation, compliance requirements, and market dynamics. To remain relevant, our workforce must rejuvenate itself, adapting to new tools and methodologies that enhance our service offerings. We discussed the notion of disruption, but the real question is: who disrupts whom? More often than not, it's the market itself that serves as the catalyst for change. The COVID-19 pandemic is a prime example; it forced us to adopt advanced communication tools to maintain tenant relationships. These innovations didn't originate within the property sector, they were driven by the urgent need for adaptation in response to external pressures. This brings us back to the importance of collaboration between property and technology. The intersection of tech innovation and property knowledge is crucial for developing effective solutions that drive traction in the real estate sector. By combining the visionary ideas of tech professionals with the practical insights of property experts, we can create tailored solutions that truly address the unique challenges of the industry. This collaboration ensures that technological advancements are not only cutting-edge but also grounded in the realities of property management, facilitating smoother implementation and greater acceptance among stakeholders. The journey of adopting technology is a collective effort. Through a culture that values continuous learning and open dialogue, we can ensure that both property professionals and tech innovators work together to drive success. As someone deeply embedded in the property industry, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of technology. At Broll, we have the unique advantage of an in-house tech entity that understands the intricacies of property management. This integration allows us to bridge the gap between traditional practices and innovative solutions. Thank you Phil Barttram (MBA), Imogen Mantel, Waldo Marcus and Gary Goliath as fellow panellists for the insightful discussions. #PropTech #Innovation #RealEstate #Collaboration API Events
