Integrating adolescent girls and boys for sexual reproductive health and rights sessions can indeed be meaningful. By creating a mixed-gender environment, boys and girls have the opportunity to learn from each other, which can help break down shyness and barriers to learning. Boys can gain insights into girls' perspectives and experiences, promoting mutual understanding and empathy. Similarly, girls can learn from boys' perspectives, fostering a more inclusive and comprehensive learning environment for all participants. This approach not only enhances knowledge but also promotes respectful communication and positive attitudes towards sexual and reproductive health issues. Using the morning break at Junda Primary School Inspire Youth Organisation managed to conduct a session aiming at reducing HIV infections among adolescents, mitigating violence, and preventing defilement pregnancies. The morning break provides a convenient time slot where students can engage in meaningful discussions and receive education on these Important topics. We believe This approach will help raise awareness, educate students about prevention methods, and promote healthy behaviors among adolescents. This year, under the theme 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝘄: 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻, we've witnessed the power of community in addressing the intersecting challenges of gender-based violence, HIV, and stigma. At #COWLHA, we remain committed to empowering women, raising awareness, and providing platforms for survivors and advocates to be heard. But the journey doesn’t end here. While these 16 days have spotlighted the urgency for action, the fight continues in our daily lives. Together, we can ensure that every woman and girl feels safe, valued, and supported—every day of the year. 🚨 16 Days of Activism: No Violence Against Men, Women, LGBTQIA+, Children, and Priority Populations 🚨 As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, I am honored to have led a powerful campaign at DWT Nthate Community Learning Centre alongside the dedicated team from Katekani Community Project's Social Program. Our campaign focused on prevention, awareness, and empowerment as we engaged with students on crucial topics: Recognizing the signs of violent behavior in themselves or others. Encouraging open conversations about seeking help, normalizing support-seeking behaviors. Promoting safe sex practices, distributing condoms, and emphasizing their role in preventing both HIV and STIs. Supporting HIV-positive students by encouraging adherence to treatment. Encouraging regular HIV testing and enrollment in the PrEP program for those at risk. The aim was to equip students with the knowledge and tools to prevent violence, protect their health, and foster a culture of care and responsibility within their communities. As Rwanda joins the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we also observe World AIDS Day, a reminder of the critical link between Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and HIV. The Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Program (GEWEP) is committed to breaking the cycle of violence that not only harms individuals but also increases the risk of HIV transmission. This year’s theme, “Twubake umuryango uzira ihohotera” (“Building GBV-free families”), emphasizes the importance of engaging men in challenging harmful gender norms and creating safe, supportive environments.
