Challenges such as inflation and competition for resources continue to plague the global construction industry. These factors pose risks for organizations that seek to get projects off the ground. Our International Construction Costs 2024 report puts a spotlight on these stumbling blocks, but also provides ideas, insights and analyses to help companies get a head start on their planned programs. There are currently no forums, reform initiatives or industry bodies that cover the whole of the construction industry. Is this necessary? If yes, why? What might this look like and what is required for it to be effective? If no, why are existing approaches ineffective and how do we achieve a sustainable construction sector within the existing environment? We want to hear your views. Last year Australian Constructors Association (ACA) published a report titled 'All Risk No Reward' that investigated construction's profitless boom. It found that: "The model of total risk transfer across the building sector has produced a deeply unstable industry - systematically week financials, a myopic focus on the short-term and an adversarial culture. A lawyers playground!" It noted that the construction industry has all the elements of a 'failed market' and that government is best placed to lead the way through increased use of collaborative procurement models focused on delivering best value not lowest cost. There is much debate about the degree to which governments should intervene in the operation of markets and construction is no exception. So we thought what better opportunity to bring this debate into the public realm than at the upcoming Foundations and Frontiers forum. We will be lining up two teams for an Oxford style great debate with the motion "The market should be left to itself without government intervention." Affirmative or negative? This will be one of many not to miss plenary sessions at the forum. Details of the FF24 agenda will be released shortly but don't delay if you want to secure tickets to this ground breaking event. https://lnkd.in/g-GG8zbz #ff24 #imaginewhen #timeforchange

Products are easy to sell, but process is where the real value lies." CMs have revolutionized construction by offering efficient solutions that save time, reduce waste, and drive performance. It’s time to focus on process over product and deliver the competitive advantage builders need. We’ve done a lot of research and fact-checking of new home and construction activity metrics that get reported in the news. We consistently don’t find the same results, and we had to wonder why. Our data is the source of truth at local governments. Over 1,200 jurisdictions and growing. Over 7.6 million permits annually. It’s data even the US government tries to wrap their arms around and match to their own methods. The problem? Most companies, and the US Government, use surveys. And listen, there’s plenty of scientific parameters that provide a band of confidence around the estimates, but when your metrics have a plus or minus 15% asterisk… how good is the survey. And yeah, how many builders are they finding, how many want to participate, and how many are honest (without bias) to report their exact activity? So, in the coming days and weeks, we’ll be reporting our own. Because accuracy matters. #construction #buildingproducts #newhomeconstruction #roofing #ibs2024

#IMCO adopts MEP Roza Thun’s report on #latepayment: By agreeing to remove the provision referring to ‘grossly unfair’ payment terms, IMCO made a step towards fairness and ensuring working capital for #SMEs. As SMEunited called for payment terms of maximum 60 days including the verification procedure and for sectorial derogations, clarity is key to ensure cashflow for companies. While the IMCO report goes in the right direction, SMEunited calls for more clarity regarding provisions on additional time for verification procedures.
