This video has been doing the rounds recently and has been the subject of so many conversation that I have been having over the last few weeks, I felt compelled to post. Across so many industries there is still a gender imbalance on talent joining Apprenticeship and Graduate schemes. Research shows that from as early as the age of five, girls begin to doubt their abilities, their intelligence and capabilities compared to boys. Stereotyping is still a thing, and we need to start challenging it! I have 2 sons, my 3-year-old is set on a career as a fireman train driver my 7-year old’s career choice changes weekly- policeman, engineer, soldier, all stereotypically male careers. This is not coming from home but is being picked up at nursery, school and from their friendship groups. More needs to be done and we need to use brilliant women, who have done brilliant things from all industries and walks of life to empower girls of all ages to reach their full potential and become the next Architects, Project Managers, Presidents, Pilots etc, etc. Even the smallest thing can make a big difference, whether it’s gifting a science kit, challenging stereotypes or just encouraging girls to reach for the stars. We need to close #thedreamgap
