Access to clean, safe water is fundamental to our health, but aging infrastructure poses challenges, especially in rural communities. The Institute for Water and Health at Georgia Southern University, in collaboration with The University of Alabama and Alabama Power Company, is addressing this issue through a pilot project in Marion, Alabama, as part of the Partnership for Inclusive Innovation’s Community Research program led by Katie O'Connor, AICP. Guided by IWH Director Dr. Asli Aslan and supported by co-investigators Dr. Lacey Huffling and Lanna Nations, this initiative focuses on workforce development, environmental justice, and community-based research. The project includes internships for future water operators and mentorship programs for current managers, with the goal of improving water access in underserved areas. Thank you to Grice Connect for highlighting this initiative. Learn more about this important work here: https://lnkd.in/eEXsN3wi #WorkforceDevelopment #CommunityResearch #SafeWaterForAll

Celebrating the Future of Workforce Education! It was great to see so many familiar faces celebrating the grand opening of the College of the Sequoias Tulare Campus Applied Technologies and Trades building! This facility is a testament to the hard work, vision, and dedication of those who brought this dream to life. Walking through the space, it was clear that the students currently training here take immense pride in their learning environment. They were eager to showcase the state-of-the-art technology and hands-on learning opportunities available, knowing they are part of something that will benefit generations to come. This milestone is especially meaningful, as our South Valley Industrial Collaborative (SVIC) has hosted two Industrial Summits at this very campus—highlighting the commitment and investments being made by COS to align education with the real workforce needs of the future. I had the privilege of attending the groundbreaking on February 22, 2023, and seeing the vision become reality today was inspiring. This achievement isn’t just about one institution; it’s about an entire ecosystem working together to build a stronger workforce. I’m grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with so many organizations that engage industry leaders and educators to ensure our workforce is ready for the jobs of tomorrow. Special recognition to: 🔹 College of the Sequoias (COS) for their commitment to expanding applied technology and trade programs. 🔹 Tulare Kings College and Career Collaborative (TKCCC) for fostering pathways that connect students to industry. 🔹 Tulare Workforce Investment Board (The WIB) for supporting workforce training and job placement. 🔹 Visalia Economic Development Corporation (VEDC) for driving economic growth and business support. 🔹 Central San Joaquin Valley K-16 Partnership for strengthening educational pipelines across the region. 🔹 South Valley Industrial Collaborative (SVIC) for championing regional workforce initiatives and engaging industry to support education driven by industry needs. This collaboration between education, industry, and workforce development is what ensures that students not only gain skills but also secure meaningful careers in industries that need them most. Looking forward to seeing the impact this new facility will have on our region for years to come! #WorkforceDevelopment #CareerEducation #Manufacturing #SkilledTrades #IndustrialCollaboration #EducationAndIndustry #TulareCounty #COS #SVIC #EconomicDevelopment

Imagine what it would feel like this summer to experience life as a full-time student on the campus of a prestigious university like Howard University, Harvard University, New York University, Northwestern University, St. Francis College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or University of Pittsburgh. What would it be like to learn about business, entrepreneurship, social justice, or commercial real estate from some of the nation’s top scholars and industry experts? And how cool would it be to spend your days learning alongside students from all over the country who are future focused, just like you? Well, you can get all that and more within LEADing for Life Enterprise’s summer college and career readiness learning programs, GSLI (Global Summer Learning Institute) and GSLI REEX: Commercial Real Estate & Urban Development! The Global Summer Learning Institute (GSLI) is our signature summer learning experience. In this 3-week hybrid program (1 week online + 2 weeks on-campus), our scholars learn the core hard skills that are essential for thriving as a LEARNer and a LEADer. GSLI REEX: Commercial Real Estate & Urban Development, provides a 3-week online and on-campus learning experience, too, but with a special focus on exploring careers in commercial real estate. One of the highlights of both GSLI and GSLI REEX is the national team challenge competition where scholars use the skills learned in their program and apply that newfound knowledge to a real-world case study that the public can engage with. The winners are awarded a $4000 scholarship towards college! That could be YOU!! High school juniors, apply to either or BOTH of these programs by clicking the link in our comments or scanning the QR code on the image. #LEADingforLife #SummerLearning #HighSchoolSeniors #Summer2024 #ClassOf2025 #GSLI #GSLIREEX
