Important Pricing Information. We've had quite a few queries recently regarding buying tickets for this year's festival so I wanted to clarify a few things. We do *not* have a ticket for the whole festival - each event and activity is priced individually. This is for two reasons: *Firstly, the capacities for each venue vary so some are small - so if there was one ticket for everything, some people might be disappointed if an event became full. *Secondly, we want to account for everyone’s budget - so if someone’s budget is low, the festival is still accessible and they can work towards their own budget. The vast majority of talks and activities are £8.50. Some activities are Pay What You Can (including our Sunday evening finale) and we have put on quite a few free events that anyone can attend and do not need a ticket. These are the Poetry Hub in The Avenue (Saturday), in the Bandstand (all weekend), Writing on the Beach (Saturday) and our Genre Breakfast and mealtime networking events (these are free to attend but we do encourage you to support our local cafes and restaurants). On the website, each talk and activity has a yellow "Book Here" button to take you through to our ticketing partner payment portal, which is the Pavilion Dance website. Please note, not all events and activities take place at the Pavilion Dance so please check the location of the activity or event. The Pavilion Dance is a charity and at the checkout will ask you if you'd like to include a donation. This is solely for the Pavilion Dance and no donations will be given to the Writing Festival. There are 3 groups of people I will champion until the day I die: 1️⃣ senior citizens, 2️⃣ young people, and 3️⃣ anyone who could be a Special Olympian. On May 30, I will be donating my time to speak at Big Hearts for Seniors, a wonderful event that raises much-needed funds for senior citizens, and I could not be more excited! The theme of the event is LOVE STORIES and let me tell you, it will be a miracle if I make it to the end of my story without love running down my cheeks and puddling on stage. This is a big event with 7 people sharing from the depths of their hearts, so think of it as a night of live storytelling, connection, and entertainment with a very important purpose. The only way we are going to help seniors is to: ❤️ fill the Lydia Mendelssohn Theater/Michigan League in Ann Arbor with big-hearted people like YOU, (tickets are on sale NOW, it's on May 30 at 7:00pm) 💜 bid on the silent auction items between May 23-30 (just NOT the stuff I'm bidding on!😉) 💙 and find individuals & businesses to sponsor the event (sponsors receive a host of benefits including 2 tickets, and if you sponsor before April 26, your info will be in event emails). THIS is what our project budget looks like... I've never had such sympathy for arts fundraisers in my LIFE. For the Venus & The Vixens Kickstarter (you can find it, if I link it I'm sure they'll come after me) we're working our bloody TAILS off to raise $60,000 from friends and supporters for bold new musical theater production, in support of our local performing arts community and the regional Creative Economy. WIth this funding model, we have 8 days to raise the remaining $15K from Kickstarter, or we don't get ANY of it. And the Kickstarter will cover just 20% of the production budget. What are we DOING in this country?? The US dedicates .13% of GDP to supporting the arts, of all types. Finland commits 20x that amount, and guess what, they're the Happiest Country in the World five years running! Germany supports the arts 15x more than us, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Canada, Ireland - they ALL fund the arts at massively higher levels. So we're left to individual donors (thank HEAVENS for them), to Fiscal Sponsors like Shunpike, and to crowdsourcing platforms like Kickstarter. And to spending literally half our time scrambling to raise funds for a community-enhancing project that, like ALL THE ARTS, should be seen as vital to our collective well-being, and health as a society.
