Last year the White House released a heat stress memo instructing the Labor Department to take action to protect workers from extreme heat. Since then, OSHA has been laser focused on developing a new heat stress rule, calling for a performance-based approach, as opposed to a specification standard. Working with hazardous materials is serious business. The good news? Effective Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) keeps you safe. A recent Fair Work Commission ruling reinforces the importance of proper PPE use, particularly with respiratory protection. Here's why a clean shave might be part of the plan: 👉 Ensures a Safe Fit: Facial hair can prevent a respirator from sealing properly, putting your health at risk. 👉 Protects You From Serious Illness: Exposure to airborne hazards can lead to lung problems. A clean shave helps ensure maximum protection. Remember, safety comes first. Talk to your employer about proper PPE protocols and how to stay safe at work. Read more ➡️ https://ow.ly/RmQl50ReK0r

Respiratory protection in the chemical production industry is one point in a larger conversation about occupational health and safety, but it is an important piece of the protective equipment puzzle. Crucially, not all respirators are designed to protect against every type of hazard. When circumstances require respirators, employers need to establish a 'respiratory protection program’ following EU-OSHA respiratory protection standards. In one case study, a paint business needed a durable solution to protect employees from chemical particles and vapors. Half masks and protective goggles were used, but they needed improvement. The solution? Defining particles and vapors in hazardous EX and non-EX-classified areas and starting a test phase. Implementing this solution offered: ✅ First-rate employee protection ✅ Enhanced comfort ✅ Adaptability across applications Additionally, the individual replacement of filters based on saturation led to a cost savings of €3200, representing a 23% reduction in expenses. What happens if PPE isn't worn when it's needed? 🤔 This can depend on specific circumstances, and the consequences can vary from mild to severe. Starting with health risks: Those that don't use PPE correctly, or choose not to wear it, are more prone to injuries, such as burns, cuts, electrocution, and much more. These injuries can be minor, or fatal. Other risks, such as harmful vapours, airborne debris, and temperatures can result in serious injury too. The damage to your business: If improper use or refusal to wear PPE is not addressed, there are severe consequences to your business. The safety of your team is your responsibility. You can receive fines if your team is discovered not using PPE properly, and can receive substantial legal penalties if a member of your team is injured due to a lack of PPE. To avoid risks to your team and your business, ensure your team are well-trained on the use of PPE in all scenarios, and make PPE easily accessible to those that require it. We can support with this, whether you're in need of PPE, or need support with training, we're your one-stop-shop. Evolving workplace safety regulations and increased awareness of the risks and costs associated with compressed air have created a rapidly expanding market for a new generation of low-pressure systems. ✍️ These systems are designed to limit exposure to pressurized air streams and airborne particulates and operate at noise levels well within regulatory guidelines. The JetBlack Safety cleaning station produces a low pressure, high-velocity blower-driven airstream - only 2.52 PSI (200 mBar), well below OSHA requirements for North America. This means the units can be safely aimed at virtually any part of the body (except eyes and ears) or can even be used directly on the skin. It is still recommended to exercise caution when using any machinery. With a focus this month on safety and PPE usage, we wanted to know about PPE usage in your SPD and any reasons why it isn’t always worn. The responses are in! 82% of you said that you wear full PPE in decontamination 100% of the time. For the 18% of you who don’t, the majority of you said it’s because of a lack of enforcement, while others noted discomfort as the primary reason. In the decontamination area, also known as the dirty side, instruments are contaminated with blood and bodily fluids which of course presents a danger to staff, coupled with the potential of bioburden spraying as the instruments are rinsed and cleaned. One poll responder commented that we should have added an option to the second question: “I’m not worried about my personal safety or my health.” So the next time you’re working in the decontamination area, think about your health and safety and wear full PPE! #SPD #Poll #Ascendco #LetUsKnow #PPE
