Film festivals are often judged on their relevance to the community. 🌍 We recently saw this in the Netherlands, where future municipal and government funding for festivals is firmly based on their relevance to their communities. This isn't just the case in the Netherlands, all around the world film festivals are on a quest for relevance. In that quest they might seek to add more events or have a year-round presence through partnerships with cinemas or educators. 🌟 Great strategies, but they do come with some extra hurdles as the film festival management suddenly becomes a whole lot more complex. Exploring the barriers and motivations for young audiences attending film festivals 🎬 Happy to share our latest blog and survey findings where we delve into the experiences and barriers faced by young audiences when it comes to attending film festivals. A notable 43.5% of respondents highlighted lack of information as a key barrier to attending film festivals. This is significant, considering 70% of young people frequently visit cinemas, yet only 43% have ever attended a film festival. This disparity underscores a valuable opportunity to enhance communication, especially among film and media students. One respondent mentioned: “For me, the main reason is the cost of tickets usually.” 🚀 In our blog, we explore: -Why aren't more young people attending film festivals? -What could encourage them to participate? T-he importance of community building in the film festival experience. Stay tuned for more insights and let's work together to make film festivals more accessible and engaging for the younger generation! About to start a newly designed session on #filmtrailers (via Channel Talent) for GCSE and A Level film & media students across the UK. The real question is: how many trailers can I reasonably show / discuss in a 45 minute slot?

Congratulations! Your film has made it into a major film festival! So, what now? The first order of business is to establish an open line of communication between you and the the theater or festival venue. You should also make sure your film is formatted properly for the sceeening. Ask the festival/theater if they want a Digital Cinema Package (DCP), Blu-Ray, or a digital file. If the theater/festival has the only copy of your DCP, ask for its return after the screening. Once you get to the festival there are lots of things to do before and after the screening. For example, you can ask to volunteer yourself, or if there’s a Q&A after the screening if you should be ready for that. REMEMBER: You are looking for as much exposure and publicity as possible and they need your help. Also, volunteering strengthens your relationship with the festival people and keeps you updated on upcoming events. Dress code should always be taken into consideration when attending film festivals. Keep in mind that some events are more formal than others. Leave postcards (smaller copies of your film’s poster) as well as your business cards on nearby tables. That way, people can learn more about you and your film. Keep in mind that you can stay as long as you like after the premiere, so take the opportunity to talk with the people who enjoyed your film. Who knows where it might lead! 😊 #film #filmmakers #filmfestivals
