The Australian Honours and Awards system celebrates individuals who make outstanding contributions locally, nationally and internationally. There is a lot of diversity within the recognition, but all Order of Australia recipients have one thing in common – someone nominated them for recognition. No one, no matter who they are or what they have done, can be recognised unless they are nominated. So, who can nominate, and who can be nominated? Anyone in the community can nominate someone for recognition. But, the people you nominate: - Must be alive at the time of their nomination - Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident - Have had no previous recognition by the Order in the last five years If you know someone who has gone above and beyond, start the process by filling out the nomination form. The Order of Australia relies on nominations from the community. Your nomination is just the beginning: after someone is nominated for recognition by the Order of Australia, an independent case officer in the Australian Honours and Award Secretariat begins extensive research using the information provided as a starting point. This includes contacting referees provided by the nominator and contacting other potential referees independently to ensure plenty of information about the individual is available. The purpose of this process is to ensure that the Council of the Order of Australia has the most complete information possible when considering whether someone should be recognised. Find out more about who can be nominated here: https://bit.ly/3wL7IYq Or, nominate someone now at this link: https://bit.ly/3W3BJwF Council for the Order of Australia #OrderofAustralia #AboveandBeyond #AustralianHonoursandAwards #Inspiring

Why do women find it so difficult to nominate themselves for awards? The feedback from our judges for the Best Emerging and the Best Established Industry Professional award was 'why are there not more female entries'? So if you are new the events industry, or if have been doing it for years, take this as a sign, and nominate yourself, or someone you know for the NZEA New Zealand Event Awards. buff.ly/3zPu60k

The WSA welcomes today's publication of the Senedd Culture, Communications, Welsh Language, Sport and International Relations Committee report into the impact of funding reductions for culture and sport. Direct investment into sport via Sport Wales is approximately £8,700,000 lower than if the levels of investment in 2010 had increased in line with inflation. If Wales wishes to maintain its proud sporting history, continue to compete on the World stage, and inspire and enable our citizens to enjoy healthy and active lives, this long-term downward trend must be reversed. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard phrases like “you’re so lucky to do what you do” and you’re very privileged to have a job like yours”. No, no, no, no, no. If you’ve ever said this to someone working in the Culture and Heritage Sector, STOP IT! It’s hugely insulting. We’ve worked very hard, made sacrifices, faced challenges (especially in the last 15 years) and above all, we are good at what we do. In short, if we are doing what we do, in a very competitive sector, it’s because we are good at it. The “you’re lucky” and you’re privileged” view has systematically served to devalue the jobs we perform and their value to society. So next time you talk to someone in the culture and heritage sector feel free to congraturle them on doing an important job or even tell them how much you admire or envy what they do, but don’t tell them they’re lucky or privileged. If you want to learn more about how valuable culture and heritage is to both the economy and society then check out this report by Historic England: https://lnkd.in/eAPTnnyH And https://lnkd.in/eJuJGjYU. https://lnkd.in/eWmmVEMZ
