Self-Love. ❤️ Not sure who needs to hear this today, but: YOU are the single most important person on this earth who decides how valuable you are. 👉When you get rejected by a job 👉You get laid off 👉You get divorced 👉You get turned down for a date 🤔Rejection sucks. But, each rejection is an external valuation of you. The real question is, the internal valuation…..how do you: See yourself? Value yourself? Believe in yourself? 👉It’s you. If you believe. You know. You love yourself. You feel capable. That’s the foundation of inner resilience. And then, as long as you maintain your rock solid self-love internally, then it’s just a matter of time for the rest to fall into place. Don’t get it twisted. It’s you. And it starts with you and it ends with you. Don’t work on convincing them. Convince yourself.

Today is world mental health day. There are people around us who may be fighting a battle that we can’t see or comprehend. We don’t need to be experts, but we all have the capacity to be kind.

🎨How can you make a place feel More inviting, more vibrant, more fun? 🤔Every single business that has a storefront, has an opportunity to contribute to the concept of “place-making.” And if each business does it’s part, and thinks creatively, it attracts more people into an area. More people increases safety, among other positive impacts. 👀Look at Mae’s cafe (this happens to be attached to Amazon’s new HQ in Arlington, Va. ) I’d say they are doing their part! ❤️Lean into what you’re good at. What you love. What you enjoy. What brings you joy. 😀 I’ve always loved watching, speaking with, being around people who are doing the thing that they are insanely skilled at, or that brings them pure organic joy. While walking in Rome, I walked past this woman who was sitting in front of an unbelievable view of the city, in perfect weather, totally focused on completing a beautiful sketch. Much respect. Seek out the things that bring you joy, and do those things. The same applies to professional life. If you’re a leader? Ask your people, what do you love doing? What comes naturally to you? Let your people double down on these things.

🚨Crisis management and emergency planning at the Colosseum in Rome 🇮🇹 🤔Did you know that there are at least 4 different police/military services on-site at the colosseum in Rome? 🇮🇹 Rome city local police 🇮🇹Italian national police 🇮🇹Carabinieri (national police but connected to military, like Gendarmerie) 🇮🇹The Italian Army (that photo of them I took at a different national monument… Italian army is placed at many national monuments) So….. if something bad happens, it’s interesting to ponder…. 🤔 Does each of these agencies have a way to speak on a radio with each other? 🤔 Are the roles and responsibilities clearly defined between each agency compared to all The various security or law enforcement breaches they are there to mitigate? 🤔When things go bad, who is in charge? 👉Are you playing the what if game? #crisismanagement #emergencyplanning

✈️Travel safety: Don’t place valuables like a cell phone in your back pockets, especially in crowded tourist areas. 🇮🇹 As seen in Rome near Trevi fountain. 👉Very crowded 👉High profile tourist destination Those two factors should remind you to check where your valuables are, and assume that pickpockets are more likely to operate in the area. 🚶Pedestrian Safety in Rome 🇮🇹 🤔Rome is a lovely old city, and in certain areas, jam packed with tourists, clamoring to see sites like Trevi fountain, Spanish steps, pantheon, etc. 🚗 As I walked through these places (with a double stroller….. (next level challenge) I wondered from a city planning perspective, why Rome has not made more of the streets near these tourist areas to be pedestrian only. They are totally saturated with people on foot, and the risk of a vehicle related incident is high. Travel pedestrian tips: 🚶♀️If you’re the pedestrian, don’t assume anything. Observe how things work for a little while, and make eye contact with drivers when you’re sharing these busy city streets with cars. Try to use crosswalks as much as possible. Weird things happen. 🚗 If you’re driving a car, go slow, make that same eye contact, don’t assume that pedestrians will move for you, and don’t even assume that they see you. Avoid the most densely populated areas, if nothing else, just to save yourself time 👔if you’re a local government official, study the pedestrian traffic patterns, Especially near the most visited locations in the city, and conduct a traffic risk assessment. Do cars really need full access to this tiny street? Could it be partially restricted? Certain days? Certain times?
