Last night, colleagues across our three offices had the opportunity to watch a screening of Why Not Scotland?, a powerful film by SCOTLAND: The Big Picture. Why Not Scotland? follows a young Scot exploring rewilding projects across Europe, looking at how nature recovery transforms landscapes and communities, asking if it’s possible elsewhere, why not Scotland? The film supports the Rewilding Nation campaign, urging Scotland to lead the way as the world’s first Rewilding Nation, restoring nature across 30% of its land and seas. It highlighted rewilding’s potential – not just to restore nature but to create opportunities for people and communities to thrive alongside it, even in urban spaces. We’re proud to be SCOTLAND: The Big Picture’s Rewilding Business Partner, working towards a wilder, more resilient Scotland. The inspiring film challenges us to reflect on the role we can all play in this vision and how we can help drive this vital conversation forward. 👀 SNEAK PEEK 🗺️ Tonight we'll share our pathway to a #RewildingNation with the Scottish Government, rewilders and stakeholders. 2021 - 2030 is the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration: a global call to prevent, halt and reverse the decline of nature. This is Scotland's opportunity to declare itself the world's first Rewilding Nation, committing to nature recovery across 30% of land and seas - for nature, climate and people. Despite growing praise for its rewilding progress, Scotland is one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth. We need a government committed to restoring our natural environment through groundbreaking legislation, sustainable funding and a clear vision for the nation. Our pathway will set out clear steps to creating a #RewildingNation. #GenerationRestoration #rewilding #ecosystemrestoration #restorenature

For me, Our Ocean Backyard is an opportunity to highlight our individual action can lead towards collective impact. As we kick off the new year, the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) is working to provide people with "actionable steps to tackle the nature crisis. Preventing, halting, and reversing the decline of nature is not just urgent – it's essential”. For 2025 the United Nations has a new goal: "Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration." By working together or individually, we can always do something to improve the planet's health. Each positive action, anywhere in the world, benefits all of us. Right now is the time for action, and we each have a role to play. Will you join me? https://lnkd.in/gNq9DKG9

EDD is leading the Natural Resources design for the Manresa Island Masterplan, focusing on preservation, enhancement, and restoration of the saltmarsh, terrestrial forests, and shoreline habitats. EDD performed detailed existing conditions and habitat surveys of the site and organized the restoration and habitat design strategies for the future park, including the creation of a vital Atlantic white cedar swamp in the remnants of a post-industrial landscape. EDD's design interventions and restoration strategies seek to bolster vital habitats for key regional migratory bird- and intertidal-species while creating opportunities to strengthen community stewardship of essential saltmarsh habitats. These efforts will also provide new partnerships within the scientific community to study methods for habitat resiliency to sea level rise and climate change. Thanks to our 2024 Earthshot Prize nomination by Impact Entrepreneur, Home Outside has been learning about the remarkable organizations, funding opportunities, and collaborative relationships that expand our capabilities to help with climate resilience. For instance, Impact Entrepreneur’s recent session “Pioneering Change: Catalyzing Climate Solutions,” presented by Sarah Kearney, explored break-throughs in carbon capture and gave us insights into the details of impact investing in the climate sector. A recent Earthshot newsletter introduced us to Restor.eco – the open-data platform that is helping restore biodiversity around the entire world. In a captivating video, Restor.eco founder Thomas Crowther lets us see and hear a biodiverse forest in Southern Europe and talks about his journey that resulted (after some bumpy steps along the way) in this magnificent platform that uses mapping, AI, and machine learning to let individuals and organizations learn about their land, including specific information about plant, amphibian, and mammal species, carbon sequestration, water, environment, and land cover over time. It’s thrilling to find everything you could hope to know about your own property–big or small–in one place. Hopefully, with enough resources and support, Home Outside will be able to expand our collections of native plants and keystone species to include every eco-region in the world, along with the information needed to access and install the plants, so that every homeowner is able to use their own property to restore biodiversity through their choices of plantings and best maintenance practices–for pollination, water retention, energy savings, and climate resilience, to help our warming planet. #homeoutside #restor #EarthShotPrize #ClimateResilience #impactentrepreneur
