We need designers at Gold Front. Lately I've posted a lot about trying to save my agency. Weird economy, the threat of AI, yada yada. Well there's been a vibe shift. I did all these LinkedIn posts and the phone started ringing. A lot. So now we need 2 freelance designers. One junior and one senior. What's it like here? Meetings are kept to a minimum. We work regular hours and no weekends. There's no yelling. Our work is gorgeous. There's no micromanaging - except on my bad days. Designers are the design experts not business people. Your co-workers actively root for your success. Our goal is to be the best design studio in the world. Mostly, it's not crazy like most jobs. On top of that, I make designers better at what they do by seeing things they don't yet see in their work. So, a good place to work - and a good place to do your best work. None of this has anything to do with soft rock, I was just trying to make myself laugh. START_QUOTE I'm a graphic design manager who often hires for an entry level position, and this looks like a lot of resumes that I receive. I don't really care about previous non-design jobs, but in this case it at least shows that you don't change jobs frequently, which is a red flag. One thing that I find useful is when people rate themselves on their skills. All GDs should be proficient with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, but I'm even more interested when they rate themselves highly in Premiere, AfterEffects, or basic HTML/CSS (or other) coding. Most recent grads don't have much experience with those, but they are useful tools to have. But by far the most important thing for me is the portfolio. Even though it's listed as an entry level position, I always get people with a lot of experience applying. Probably because these jobs are in short supply, at least in the US. A lot of them have great resumes, but their work is underwhelming or very dated. Always stay up to date with current design trends. If you think your portfolio is lacking, continue to design your own pieces and take on freelance work. END_QUOTE What has helped you as an entry level professional to land a position?

Hiring a freelance designer can be tricky, especially if you’re new to it. Or if you’ve had a bad experience with one before. Because it’s not just about finding a designer who can make your project look good; you need someone who gets what you’re trying to achieve. Plus, there’s the whole communication thing – making sure they understand you and you understand them. And let’s not forget about deadlines and reliability.
