Using GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) by city governments and transportation authorities enables the standardization of public transport information, such as schedules, routes, stop locations, and fares. Using this format facilitates data integration with mobility apps and maps, allowing users to access consistent and up-to-date information on public transportation. Additionally, it is possible to monitor and manage the transportation system more effectively, contributing to the improvement of urban mobility and promoting a more efficient and sustainable transport system. The Public Transportation Observatory is Bus2’s latest tool and provides an updated snapshot of the sector in Brazilian cities. This massive amount of data allows stakeholders to develop more effective strategies to meet the population’s demands and contribute to more sustainable and efficient urban mobility. According to data collected by Bus2 in 2024, cities with up to 100,000 inhabitants, such as Estância (SE) and Corumbá (MS), have an average of 1.35 trips per 1,000 inhabitants on weekdays. Meanwhile, in cities with more than 600,000 inhabitants, such as Campinas (SP) and Teresina (PI), this number rises to 4.11. Want to know more? GTFS, which stands for General Transit Feed Specification, is the most widely used format for displaying transportation information worldwide. Developed over 10 years ago in a partnership between Google and Portland’s transit agency, TriMet, the GTFS parameters reflect information such as stop locations, routes, schedules, and fares, allowing for a complete view of any operation, regardless of the mode of transport – the standard is compatible with bus lines, trains, subways, cable cars, ferries, and more. Want to standardize public transportation data in your city? Check out the GTFS editor developed by Bus2. For municipalities, the tool is free.
