I am being sucked back into my old ways... ...let me explain...before getting into AI and Data about 2 years ago, I worked as a UC consultant which in essence is the dark art of making telephony endpoints talk to each other by designing and architecting the routes the voice will take in between. I thought that world was behind me, till now... The main issue with voice in the genAI world was it was done by taking voice and transcribing it to text, pass that through the llm and get a response and send that back. The main issue with this was the delay - it felt like making an international call from a rotary phone in the 80's - showing my age here. With openAI realtime api, we now have a speech to speech without doing the stuff in the middle which has made it really really fast. You can speak, interrupt and ask questions in realtime and it's amazing. But for this to have real business value, it needs to be used in call centres, marketing, sales etc who use "real phones" and this takes us back to the telephony network, the dark art of sip trunks, voice codecs, session border controllers, sip termination, caller id etc. It always feels surreal when I make a test call and the agent picks up on the other end and proceed to have a conversation. If you are an enterprise organisation and not looking to implement a voice solution, you competitors will be cutting call centre costs to fractions, improving customer service, handling all sales inquiries etc. Not sure how to get started, lets talk: https://lnkd.in/d69rnR5b
