The national government and teachers have differed over claims that Sh19 billion capitation funds had been disbursed to schools. Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba said the Treasury had sent the initial amount, as he assured head teachers and principals that the government will address other pending challenges in a fortnight. https://lnkd.in/d_W4tyEd

According to Schools Week, the government’s £70 million programme to pilot the SEND and alternative provision reforms is “about nine months” behind schedule, with some changes going down like “a bucket of cold sick”. In essence, this is what is horribly wrong with the current UCP government. The Premier doesn't consider what is best for all Albertans. She is primarily concerned about her radical right wing base, which represents a small minority in the province. We see this on a number of issues. Take, for instance, providing private and charter schools Capital funding for new schools and deferring public school demands/requests. When asked if private schools should be taxpayer funder, almost 80% said no. Yet to satisfy her base, she will do the exactly that, with negative effects on the public school system. #FiretheUCP https://lnkd.in/gQr8YbtE https://lnkd.in/gHMx_RFE

"It is always the most vulnerable pupils that suffer most through lack of funding for education. No progress is being made on closing the disadvantage gap, while the SEND system is in crisis with schools and colleges struggling to afford the cost of support and local authorities running up huge deficits. Improved funding is urgently needed to ease the immediate pressures together with a greater focus on developing more specialist support for early intervention." New on Wonkhe: Our first glimpse of sector finances in 2023–24 shows evidence of widespread efforts to avoid being in deficit. David Kernohan takes you through what we know https://lnkd.in/gcuGP3aB "I’ve got a list of 160 large, well known, providers of higher education who should, by now, have made this disclosure – 43 of them are yet to do so. Of the 117 that have, just 15 (under 13 per cent) posted a deficit for that financial year (to be fair, this includes eight providers in Wales, where the deadline – for bilingual accounts – is the end of the month)"
