Musings of A Choiceness Coach Two weeks ago she spent the weekend driving along east coast to attend a funeral of an older friend. While traveling she had the opportunity to finish reading a book that has been on her list since Fall 2023. She received a copy from one of the writers Sertrice, after her presentation at the HR Summit. It’s an empowering book to shift the constant misconception and misunderstandings about inclusion equity and inclusion. These were her favorite takeaways for continuing in her work and all things she has implemented in her HR career: -Sustainable evidence based approach to all HR business decisions -Operationalizing terms for Board, leaders, and staff as they engage with HR -Industrial Organizational Psychologists use science to improve the human experience at work (she has been using this approach and style for her science background) -Practice sharing microaffirmations to create inclusive naturally (our Chief Human is a pro at this!) We loved the way these complex terms were described: -Diversity is the amount of difference -Equity is intentional rebalancing of power dynamics -Inclusive Behaviors are the actions that make others feel valued, respected, seen, and heard Ellysa was originally a general science major in college and she has incorporated an adapted scientific method to her Human Resources approaches that has served her well in crafting IED initiatives to date. This book brought her back to that foundational knowledge and the practical application she received from NYU, while studying her Master of Science in Human Resources Management and Development. Our upskilling starts within us, becoming continuous learners and having a commitment to self development. Coaching is a powerful tool to challenge concepts, bias, and judgements related to IED. Consider coaching for those that have a desire to create and sustain a more inclusion work environment for all. Coaching can be an appropriate intervention for any person at any stage of their IED journey. Such thinking can create division and hinder collaboration in diverse teams.
