Managed to fit in lunch with my eldest today, to celebrate the Christmas Toastie being back on the menu in M&S 😋 🎅 This week I’ve had lots of discussions with clients about the distinction between ‘important’ and ‘urgent’, and how to use this to help prioritise how they are spending their time. 🕰️ It’s easy to get caught up in lots of seemingly ‘urgent’ tasks, but are they really moving your business forwards? 🤔 Next week, make sure you carve out time to work on the ‘important’ tasks to move you nearer your goals. ✔️ These are the strategic, planning, working ON your business tasks that will become urgent if you don’t deal with them now! Highly recommend the Christmas Toastie by the way, and nurturing relationships is always important! 😊

I'm always thankful to my local online newspaper, the Lincoln Herald, for the opportunity to voice my opinions. Per the link below, in this article I make the argument that regardless of one's religious persuasion, we can all be "secular Christians." This is a term I've heard recently and my take on this term is that if we had a society that was guided by the teachings of Jesus on how to treat one another, the world would be a much better place for everyone. Jesus' lessons on tolerance, helping those in need (feeding the hungry) and showing love for one another should be followed by everyone during this Christmas season and beyond. What does this have to do with the workplace? Well everything, in the sense that how organizations treat their employees should be based on morality. Yes, employers must be concerned about the output that employees achieve, but being a civically-minded organization means that organizations live up to the moral imperative of ensuring the overall wellbeing of their employees, as well as their families. Living wages, sufficient paid leave and hybrid/remote work schedule options are examples of benefits that enable employees to be both productive and happy. It's a win-win. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Thanks, Eric https://lnkd.in/eRi_rrga Also, this article was loosely based on this YouTube video. I get a lot of folks sending me advertisement on marketing for YouTube and I admit I need help to reach a larger audience for my videos and my book, but at this point, I'm just reviewing my options. Thank you though. https://lnkd.in/eJiV6mfg

The holiday season is a prime time for networking, but it’s also an opportunity to build genuine, lasting relationships. At holiday networking events, focus on quality over quantity by having real conversations with a few people rather than trying to meet everyone in the room. One example is to ask open-ended questions that go beyond the usual "What do you do?"—try something like, “What’s been the highlight of your year so far?” This simple shift can help open up deeper discussions and reveal shared interests, making your connections more authentic and memorable. 🎄💬 To truly stand out at year-end gatherings, remember that networking is about building trust and connection, not just collecting business cards. Share your experiences and listen actively, showing genuine curiosity about the people you meet. Follow up with a personalized message after the event to reinforce the connection, whether it’s through LinkedIn, email, or even a handwritten note. The holidays are all about giving, so give the gift of meaningful conversations that could lead to valuable partnerships well into the new year. ✨💌 Discover more at https://lnkd.in/dqX2DF8k #dreamarchitect #parallelograminstitute #daphneyphillip #blackeducators #blackwomen #blackownedbusiness

The People Magazine: Our home for stories from the THIMM world In 75 years of THIMM, many exciting stories about the company have come together - and since 1971, these have had a fixed place in an internal employee magazine. We have just published the 168th issue, which this time is all about the company's big anniversary. Starting out as a loose collection of personal notes and announcements by company founder Walter Felix Thimm, the medium developed into a proper newspaper, “THIMM Newspaper”, which was soon translated into all the national languages of the THIMM locations. Since 2020, the “People Magazine” appears three times a year - filled with editorial insights into the THIMM world and, above all, many stories about the employees. However, one question remains: Is a printed magazine not now outdated? 💭 No, says Editor-in-Chief Valerie Hornig: “Our People Magazine is an important element of internal communication at THIMM. It connects our locations with each other and gives a permanent place to stories that would easily get lost in the fast-paced, digital world. It is complemented by the online version.” By the way, one thing has always remained the same from the first issue to the present day: A whole page full of personal announcements from the extended THIMM family, such as anniversaries, weddings or new additions to the family - very much in the spirit of a family business. 💙

'Tis the season to mix and mingle! 🎄 Here are my top four one-liners to break the ice at holiday networking events: 1. Is the end of the year typically very busy or relatively calm for you? 2. What’s on your work wishlist this holiday season? 3. If you had an extra week off over the holidays, how would you spend it? 4. Do you have any holiday traditions you like to keep up? What would be your #5? ♻️ Repost to make the holidays less awkward for everybody! 👋 Follow me, Jessica Guzik, for more networking tips Photograph: Me trying Pandoro (NOT PANETTONE) for the first time!

Here is this week's edition of your MUST KNOW connections to grow your network personally and professionally. First up is Tyler Fisher it only took us a few months of running into each other but we finally made it work to connect and get to know each other and learn about Tyler's business. Love when young professionals go out on their own to build something that can better serve people. Tyler launched his bookkeeping business a little over a year ago. Look forward to running into him at more events around town. Next is Allyson Abbas. Here's a gal who is going to do some pretty awesome things. She just graduated from Iowa State and works as an executive recruiter with a background in Ag. She's already actively trying to get involved in the community, intentionally grow a network and meet awesome people. If only I would have done that at her age. She's going places and you heard it here first. Last, but definitely not least, is Jon Miller with Trilix. Want to know the must gentle, kind, encouraging advocates for people in DSM? I don't know how to actually rank that, but Jon is for sure up there. He's supported me in so many ways from events, to coffee check ins, and even made it out to bobblehead night at the Iowa Wolves and he doesn't even like basketball. Any amount of time spent with Jon is well worth it. The world needs more people like him. I'll say it again: MAKE SURE TO MAKE EFFORTS TO MEET YOUR #LINKEDIN CONNECTIONS. They are so beneficial to life and business. Connect with these people. Get to know these people. Promote these people. Together we can change the world. #promotepeoplenotproducts #dsmusa #reppdesmoines #networking #jacobfromlinkedin #businessdevelopment #youngprofessionals
