Founder and CEO Teledata ICT, Broadband Internet, Managed Services, IP Telephony, Video Streaming, Cloud
From SIM Cards to Network Savvy: Building Ghana's Largest WISP, One Branch Connection at a Time #entrepreneur #connectivity #ghana #telecoms Remember the click-clack of recharge cards? Ah, the sweet symphony of a booming business! Teledata Ltd., my brainchild, became the top Scancom distributor within two years. But success bred a new challenge: synchronizing branches across Ghana through limited, expensive networks. Instead of settling, I dared to dream bigger. We built our own network, Teledata ICT Ltd, laying radio links across eight regions. What started as a need for internal connectivity blossomed into Ghana's largest Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP). Towers sprouted, backhauls buzzed, and the internet pulsed through our own infrastructure. It wasn't all smooth sailing. Navigating regulations, managing bandwidth, and building a team from scratch – every byte was a hard-won victory. But seeing businesses empowered, communities bridged, and the digital divide shrinking – that fueled our tireless hustle. Teledata ICT Ltd wasn't just a network; it was a catalyst for progress. We connected schools, hospitals, and remote villages, empowering Ghanaians to access the world at their fingertips. The click-clack of keyboards replaced the click-clack of cards, and a new symphony of opportunity resonated across the nation. My journey from SIM cards to network architect reminds me that challenges often birth innovation. What were your moments of entrepreneurial ingenuity? How did you turn limitations into opportunities, building bridges in unexpected places? Share your stories, let's celebrate the spirit of connectivity, one byte at a time! #TeledataGhana #WISP #innovation #bridgingthegap

Wim Vanhelleputte, CEO of Safaricom Ethiopia, has declared that digital transformation is a national priority for the East African country and outlined the core elements for its implementation. Vanhelleputte was taking part in the Accelerated Digital Transformation Summit, which is currently taking place in Addis Ababa. The recently appointed Safaricom Ethiopia CEO gave a keynote speech on ‘Operator Perspectives on National Priorities’ during the summit's inaugural this week. In his speech, he said that digital transformation is Ethiopia's top national priority and listed critical areas that need addressing to make it possible, one of which being the deployment of digital infrastructure. He added that while his company has been actively developing its own network, it has also supplemented this with infrastructure sharing. Smartphone affordability is another challenge facing Ethiopia, Vanhelleputte said, adding that these devices are “the gateway to digital life”. Vanhelleputte also noted that digital payment platforms that are not monopolistic must provide customers with different ways to experience digital services. He added that digital payment platforms must be built on the idea of interoperability to ensure that they communicate with one another. Another element for Vanhelleputte is open APIs, saying there should be options for anyone to plug into multiple platforms and create solutions to local problems. In addition to openness and collaboration, he said “there are a lot of talented Ethiopians and we need to empower them to realise their innovative potential”. Vanhelleputte’s sentiments mirror the fact that Safaricom Ethiopia is betting on the East African country's digital future for its own success.
