I have to admit that I’m stealing your ideas - but I have my reasons. Great ideas deserve to be shared and reshaped. Sometimes, it’s about tweaking what’s already working. What do I mean? I “Study” linkedin and twitter on the daily Searching for strategies and approaches that are hitting the mark. I tuck these ideas into my curated list of concepts, which I later review and dissect to understand their inner workings. It’s not about copying. It's about improving and adapting. Remember what Steve Jobs said - “Good artists copy, great artists steal.” Dan Koe often talks about leveraging existing concepts rather than starting from scratch. It’s not about copying; it’s about taking something proven and adding your twist. Consider Apple—they didn’t create the MP3 player. They just made it better Think about Netflix—they didn’t create streaming. They simply perfected it The list goes on … Think of it this way You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Just make it roll better. Don’t be afraid to piggyback off others; it’s a smart way to innovate. Find successful strategies and adapt them to fit your style and needs. Add your touch to make it stand out. My name is Tom Hall - I help businesses grow in the world of all things digital. Follow along for more content like this.

Leveraging Neuroscience and Design to build thriving social good organizations │ Based in US and EU and working across the globe
What got us here won’t get us there…so why are we still driving the same car? Leaders love to say that piece about what got us here and blah, blah, blah. It is true, but then so often they get in the same car, so to speak. Granted, they run it through a car wash and get a tune-up first. But trading in for a new car? What about trading in for a jet? Rocket? I almost never see it happen. Why? Leaders also love the “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” saying. (Except in tech where everything is about “disruption”). But we rarely marry the two sayings. It usually plays out from the very beginning when we embark upon our “strategy sessions” to imagine or envision getting to a BHAG (big hairy audacious goal). We have a wild brainstorming session…where we immediately put the brakes on. We set the guardrails, we respond to crazy ideas with “that’s not possible”, and we laugh at “stupid” ideas. All of that serves to shut the brain down and force it to stick to the patterns it knows, to not veer too far off of what is safe. In other words, we kill divergent thinking before it even has a chance. Remember when Netflix used to be a service that mailed you DVDs? And then they lead the shift into an entirely new streaming model. Whether you lament the loss of mom-and-pop video stores (my husband) or think that streaming is the best thing since sliced bread, you can’t argue that Netflix fostered truly divergent thinking to get there. I love holding this creative space for organizations. Sure, tell me your guardrails privately and ahead of time if you need to get them off your chest. Even better so I can help you control the desire to corral the ideas. The wild ideas will move into a feasibility phase, don’t worry. But that happens later. For now, we are going to get really out there… If you were still driving the same car as your first car, where would you be now?
