Are Millennial Parents better than previous generations?
You decide.
A Good to know article shares what parents today ‘wish their parents had done differently when they were brought up.’
Millennial parents say they’re more open and transparent with their kids than their own parents were with them. They also believe they’re more likely to apologise.
One said, ‘If I’m wrong, I try to explain to my kids that I make mistakes, too.’
Some millennials see themselves as more emotionally open – ready to say I love you or to give hugs.
As for screentime, one parent confirmed the lack of viewing choice when growing up.
They said that today ‘Kids have Netflix, Disney Plus, or BBC iPlayer, and they could watch it all day every day. The onus is on the parent to promote responsible consumption.’
As for mobiles, children now have devices from a very early age. Not so in the past.
Today, millennial parents more closely monitor their kids, whilst allowing them to pick their own food, clothes, or haircuts.
Older parents didn’t know where their kids were all the time and wouldn’t give them freedom of choice.
So does this mean millennials are better parents today? Or is it just that they do things differently?
