A meeting of local farmers was held today at Reclaim Tax Offices in Shrewsbury with local MP Daniel Kawczynski to address the challenges facing UK farming and the necessity for government support, including research and development tax credits, to aid farmers. The discussion revolved around the crucial role of usable farmland in UK fresh food production, juxtaposed with the government's allowance of its diversion for alternative uses such as housing, solar farms, and industrial estates. Acknowledging the importance of safeguarding farmland for food production, particularly in light of weather uncertainties impacting crop yields and increasing instances of farms being incentivized not to produce food, it was emphasized that failing to protect high-grade farmland could result in a significant decline in domestic food production. The meeting participants expressed concerns over potential food shortages and the broader ramifications of a diminishing farming industry. However, amidst these concerns, there were positive highlights discussed during the meeting: DEFRA's Initiatives: The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has taken commendable steps towards bolstering food security and supporting farmers. The introduction of a cap on the amount of land allocated to Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) actions addresses concerns about land diversion, striking a balance between environmental conservation and agricultural productivity. Priority on Food Security: DEFRA's unwavering commitment to securing the country's food supply was recognized as a positive move. Emphasizing sustainable practices and efficient land use is crucial for building a resilient food system. Government Investment: The UK Government's substantial investment of £427 million to enhance farm productivity was applauded. This investment is pivotal for maintaining profitable and productive farms, thereby contributing to food security. #BuyBritishButton Campaign: Conservative MP Dr. Luke Evans' advocacy for the #BuyBritishButton initiative was praised. This campaign, endorsed by major retailers, encourages consumers to support local farmers, thus contributing to the sustainability of the agricultural sector. The CEO of Reclaim Tax Ltd, Richard Canfer-Taylor emphasised the importance of fair compensation for farmers and responsible land management in ensuring a robust food system. Additionally, supporting initiatives like the #BuyBritishButton campaign was highlighted as a collective effort to strengthen the agricultural sector for a brighter future. About Reclaim Tax Ltd: Reclaim Tax Ltd specialises in advocating for tax incentives and sustainable practices within the agricultural industry. With over 12 years of experience, they have identified over £407 million in tax benefits for their clients to date. #shrewsbury #shropshirefarming #shropshirefarmers #shropshirefarms #researchtaxrebates #researchtaxcredits #farmerstaxrebate #farmingtaxrelief

Exciting news! The Dutch Senate has given a resounding yes to exempt plant-based alternatives to milk from the “lemonade tax”. The proposed tax hike of 196% on plant-based alternatives to milk has been criticized for its illogical nature, unfairly disadvantaging consumers who choose oat drinks over milk (as milk is exempt from the consumption tax). In response to this, the Senate has taken a clear stand in favor of plant-based consumers. Firstly, they voted to defer the tax increase by a year. Furthermore, they supported a motion to exempt plant-based milk alternatives from the consumption tax. I am extremely pleased to see politicians listening to all the voices of over 54,000 people signing the petition alongside several NGOs and companies strongly opposing this distorting tax. While we celebrate this, urgent changes are needed in existing legislation to level the playing field. Now, we expect State Secretary Marnix van Rij to come with a solution to retroactively exempt all plant-based alternatives to milk. Our commitment to advocating for responsible policymaking continues, and we will persist in urging policymakers to take swift action. #sustainablefoodsystems #levelplayingfield #plantbasedfoods #stoplimonadetaks
By now we all know that dolphins don’t tax oat drink companies for reasons that don’t make sense to dolphins. Are humans finally learning? The Senate in the Netherlands has just given a resounding YES to exempt plant-based alternatives to milk from the consumption tax. E-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e! This shows that lawmakers are listening to Misty E. Mason and the voices of over 54,000 people, along with NGOs and companies who signed her petition to stop the consumption tax on plant-based drinks. E-e-e-e-e-e-e-e! And demonstrates a strong opposition to taxing plant-based alternatives with a generally lower climate impact than milk. While we celebrate this win, change is still needed in existing legislation to level the playing field. The State secretary has responded speedily committing to come back with a proposal during the first quarter of 2024 recognizing that plant-based alternatives should be exempt. Now the spotlight is on State Secretary Marnix van Rij to heed the clear signal from the Senate and answer the urgent call of the dolphins! E-e-e-e-e-e-e! Go Marnix!

The Corporate Affairs Manager, Joy Egolum, expressed the company's willingness to explore the incentives offered, including tax holidays. Dr. Raymond Asemakaha of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited urged the brewery to resume operations promptly, emphasizing the state's conducive business environment and available resources like sorghum and manpower. Asemakaha noted the potential economic benefits of local production, aiming to curb capital flight and empower local farmers. The government's efforts include streamlining business processes with a one-stop shop. While the brewery considers the proposal, discussions continue, with both parties aiming to reach a mutually beneficial arrangement within the stipulated timeframe.

Clarification on Tax Obligations for Greenhouse Owners: Insights from the Federal Tax Service The Federal Tax Service (FNS) has recently provided crucial clarifications regarding the tax obligations for greenhouse structures on private plots, addressing widespread confusion among gardeners and small-scale agricultural entrepreneurs. Regularly, various gardening communities and online forums circulate information about taxes on garden structures, including greenhouses. These discussions often claim that such structures on private plots are subject to taxation, citing recommendations from the Ministry of Finance. This has led to considerable confusion among greenhouse owners, who are unsure of their financial responsibilities and the potential for penalties if they fail to comply. The FNS has emphasized the importance of understanding which structures are taxable and the conditions under which taxes are applicable. According to the latest guidelines, not all greenhouse structures on private plots are automatically subject to property tax. The taxability depends on specific criteria, including the permanence of the structure and its classification under property regulations. The key points clarified by the FNS include: Permanent vs. Temporary Structures: Permanent greenho...

Send this article to your Member of Parliament next time they bemoan the declining amount of farms and farmers in Canada. “The rule has the effect in this case of precluding the operator of a bona fide farming business from deducting losses that would be available to the operator of any other type of business..” Want more farms? Fix dumb laws like this one. Big ticket policy announcements are fun political optics but aren't helping anyone except big operators and multi-national conglomerates. Focus on fixing the punitive laws currently in place before you start day dreaming up fancy new programs. https://lnkd.in/geUQAZBP

FARMERS WANT CARBON TAX RELIEF - SHARE IF YOU AGREE Canadian Farmers Want Carbon Tax Relief, and What it Means For You…Learn More: https://hubs.la/Q02jL77R0 From PEI to the prairies, farmers across Canada are waiting with baited breath to see what will happen next with a private member’s bill that was debated in the House of Commons this week. The legislation in question, Bill C-234, would exempt farmers from paying the federal carbon tax on propane and natural gas, when it is used to heat and cool barns and greenhouses, as well as for drying grains. One big reason farmers want the exemption is because they say the cost has become too much to manage. And of course, when farmers’ costs increase, some of those costs get passed on to consumers. #canada #cdnpoli #canpoli #justintrudeau #farmers #agriculture Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada/ Agriculture et Agroalimentaire Canada #politics Justin Trudeau Canada Powered By Women
