Did you know that biking to work benefits both your health and the planet? A comprehensive sustainable mobility plan should be multimodal, acknowledging the bicycle as not just a sustainable mode of transportation, but also a healthy way to commute to work! 🚲💚 Here are some facts that will seriously make you consider hopping on your bike: 🌍 Emission Reduction: According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, if 5% of work trips were made by bike, CO2 emissions would decrease by 8 million tons annually. 💪 Health Improvement: A study by the University of Glasgow found that biking to work can reduce the risk of heart disease by 46%. 💼 Increased Productivity: Employees who bike to work arrive more alert and awake. According to a study by the University of Bristol, cyclists are 15% more efficient at work than non-cyclists. 🚗 Traffic Reduction: If 10% of the population switched from cars to bikes, traffic in cities would decrease by 40%. But remember that in every multimodal commuting plan, sharing a bus, a van, a car, or even a bike is key to achieving a more sustainable future! 🚌🌱 #WorldBicycleDay #Sustainability

I biked from Copenhagen to Paris and saved almost 60 kg of CO2. 🚲🗺️ I'm kidding, but I actually tracked more distance, so I could've gone even further! As a Spaniard, I’ve always been used to getting around by car or public transport. Most families own at least one car, and it's our main mode of transportation. 🚗💨💨 10 years ago, I’d never have imagined commuting for 30 minutes or more by bike! 🚴♀️ I’m proud to be contributing to reducing CO2 emissions, even though I’m still learning (being honest, as a big car fan, sometimes I wish I had one here...🤭). What makes me happy is just the fact of considering biking as an option. It’s a big step for someone like me, and it's proof that if I can do it, anyone can! Maybe you don't own a bike, but consider swapping the car for walking short distances. 🚶♀️ It's healthy for you and for the world! 🫀🌍 A huge thank you to Donkey Republic for offering this fantastic service. It started in Copenhagen, and now they're in many cities in Europe! 🫏🌇 I love it because it gives me the freedom to choose how I want to commute every day by picking up and dropping off bikes whenever and wherever I need in the city. I can’t wait to try it out in Barcelona too—I’ve never biked back home! 🫨 Keep growing and contributing to better urban mobility! 🌍💚 #Sustainability #UrbanMobility #SustainableCity

Day 10: Promote Green Transportation Today, we're embarking on a journey to promote green transportation and pave the way for a more sustainable future. By advocating for and adopting eco-friendly modes of travel, we can reduce our carbon footprint, minimize air pollution, and contribute to a healthier planet. See what you have to do: >> Opt for walking, cycling, or using public transit for your daily commute or errands whenever possible. >> Consider carpooling or ride-sharing with friends, family, or coworkers to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and share transportation costs. >>Research electric vehicles (EVs) and alternative fuel vehicles as environmentally-friendly alternatives to conventional gasoline-powered cars. When last did you trek for 30minutes? #eco30impact #sustainablelifestyle #day10

Excited to share some thoughts on sustainable transportation! 🚶♀️🚴♂️ Over the past year, I've made a conscious effort to walk or bike for shorter trips instead of automatically hopping in the car. The benefits have been incredible: • Improved physical and mental health • Reduced carbon footprint • Significant cost savings on gas and car maintenance • Rediscovering my local community It's amazing how a small shift in habits can make such a big impact. For those who haven't tried it, I encourage you to give walking or cycling a chance for your next errand or commute. What's holding you back from embracing these eco-friendly modes of transport? Let's discuss in the comments! #SustainableTransport #ActiveCommuting #HealthyLiving [A simple infographic showing statistics on the benefits of walking and cycling vs. driving]

In Kenya, the primary strategy should be accessible public transportation and increased provisions for active transportation - NMT infrastructure. It would be great if public transport providers could shift to e-buses, of course after the necessary charging infrastructure is provided on a larger scale. The question that arises is, in a country where having a private vehicle is seen as a status symbol of sorts, how can we shift the perception to favour public transit?

🚦Sustainable Transport🚐.. Sustainable transport refers to ways of transportation that are sustainable in terms of their social and environmental impacts. Globally, transportation contributes to a significant portion of carbon emissions, accounting for around 14 - 15% of global greenhouse emissions. This is dependent on factors like mode of transport, type of fuel and distance travelled. Examples of Sustainable Transport Strategies 👇... 1. Encourage car pooling🚗 This also saves on fuel and budget. 2. Encourage cycling and walking🚶🚴 This also promotes a healthy body. 3. Promote extensive cycling infrastructure: The Netherlands amongst others is best known for this and for promoting a cycling culture. 4. Promote electric/ Hybrid vehicles & bikes. 5. Promote convenient and comfortable public transport🚃 Reducing frustrations from public transport could encourage more people to use it.
