The MIND diet is designed to promote brain health and reduce the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Regarding cheese, the MIND diet recommends limiting consumption. Here is what you need to know: 🧀 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐅𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭: Cheese is high in saturated fats, which have been associated with inflammation and cardiovascular issues, both of which can negatively impact cognitive function. The MIND diet recommends limiting foods high in saturated fats to protect brain health. 🧀 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The MIND diet specifically suggests consuming cheese no more than once a week. This restriction aims to minimize the intake of saturated fats and cholesterol, which can contribute to the buildup of beta-amyloid plaques in the brain, a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. 🧀 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Studies have shown that adherence to the MIND diet is associated with a slower rate of cognitive decline and a reduced risk of Alzheimer's disease. By limiting cheese, along with other unhealthy foods like red meat and butter, the diet helps maintain optimal brain health. 𝕋𝔸𝕂𝔼 ℍ𝕆𝕄𝔼 ℙ𝕆𝕀ℕ𝕋𝕊: The MIND diet recommends to limit cheese consumption. . . . . . #FamilyFirst #WithDrBelgraveKing #HealthEducation #NotMedicalAdvice #YourFamilyDoctor #YourGeriatricDoctor #OnBlakeRoad #AtFamilyMedicineCenter #call7029310 #helloJune #AlzheimersAwareness #Dementia #BrainHealth #DementiaAwareness #Alzheimers #MemoryCare #HealthyAging #NeuroHealth #CognitiveHealth #MentalWellness #BrainFitness #MindMatters

How's your memory? One of the things that many of us fear as we get older is memory loss and cognitive problems – a fear of losing the essence of ourselves. Whether you or a loved one is struggling with or are concerned about memory loss, it’s worth knowing that there is a lot you can do with food and lifestyle to help. Just like you would with any major health concerns, the best thing to do is to talk to your doctor as a starting point if you’re worried. They will be able to evaluate your situation and may signpost you to resources and groups that might help support you. It’s possible – though unlikely – that the doctor will know about the food and lifestyle strategies that would help. They’re just not given the training, but as a nutritional therapist, I can help here. What you eat (both historically and also what you eat from now on) plays a critical role in brain health. Diet has been found to have a significant impact on the prevention and progression of Alzheimer's disease (Stefaniak et al., 2022). Several studies have reported that what you eat, and your lifestyle strongly influence the risk of cognitive decline, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease (Sousa & Guimarães, 2015). The Mediterranean, Ketogenic, DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) and MIND (Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurological Delay) diets have all been shown to have a beneficial effect. Diets like the Mediterranean diet are well-documented as helpful for many common chronic health conditions. The food we eat acts on the body as a whole and, while it can improve cognitive health, it can also boost other body systems as well like the cardiovascular, immune, hormone, and digestive systems. And let’s not forget that risk factors for stroke and cardiovascular disease are also connected to dementia and so the type of diet that works for brain health is also good for cardiovascular health and stroke prevention. That means you get to improve several areas of your health in one go. I cover nutrition and brain health in quite some detail in my Reinvent Programme, which is my 3-month intensive health transformation programme for women.
