Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when our demand for the planet’s ecological resources exceeds what can be regenerated in a year. Since the first Earth Overshoot Day on 25th December 1971, we now hit this mark nearly five months earlier. This shift highlights the growing pressure we place on our planet's resources. At CHEP, we’re playing our role in pushing back this date through our circular model, designed to break the impact of linear consumption. Here’s how we do it: 1. Designing out waste and pollution → by providing pooled alternatives to single-use platforms 2. Keeping products and materials in use → by repairing our platforms so that they can be shared and reused over and again 3. Regenerating natural systems → by sourcing 100% certified timber And if circularity can help push Earth Overshoot Day back, how far might regeneration take us? August 1st marked Earth Overshoot Day—the moment when our consumption of natural resources surpassed what the Earth can regenerate in 2024. Now, every resource we use puts us deeper into ecological debt. The magnet industry, heavily reliant on rare earth elements like neodymium (Nd) and iron (Fe), is a significant part of this challenge. Extracting these elements from the Earth is not only environmentally damaging but also unsustainable in the long run. At HARMONY, our mission is to change this. We’re working on an innovative, green, and safe closed-loop recycling process for NdFeB magnets. By developing a method to recycle rare earth elements from old magnets, we aim to reduce the need for new extractions and create a more sustainable future. This research isn’t just about reducing waste—it's about rethinking how we use resources and pushing Earth Overshoot Day further back, year by year. Join us in building a future where science and sustainability go hand in hand. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dGUnMPYd 🌱 #EarthOvershootDay #MagnetRecycling #Sustainability #sustainablecrms4eu #REEs

Overshoot Day is the date when humanity has used more of Earth's resources than can be replenished in a year, starting from January 1. If we continue without making any (sustainable) shift, we will need one and a half Earth to provide for our consumption. There is good news, though. We can do something about it. Try out the personal footprint calculator. It will help you get a better understanding of your own footprint score. You will see which of your daily activities has the highest negative impact on the planet. Then, decide yourself what changes you can make to live more sustainably. Today, as we "celebrate" Earth Day, let's take a moment to reflect on the state of our planet. Our Earth, so beautifully adorned with vast oceans and lush landscapes, unfortunately also bears the burden of waste. The staggering amount of waste that litters our landfills, pollutes our oceans, and mars our landscapes is a pressing issue that demands our attention. But amidst this challenge lies an opportunity for action and change. As individuals and as a society, we have the power to make a difference. Through innovation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to sustainability, we can work towards a cleaner, healthier planet for generations to come. Until we learn to value waste as new resources and reduce our consumption, there will be no real space to truly celebrate this day. 🌱🌎 #EarthDay #Sustainability #WasteManagement #ProtectOurPlanet pic by Tom Fisk by Pexel
