The Dubai Expo 2020 curtains closed on the 31st of March 2022. We did fairly well under the circumstances as it could have been worse. We are yet to receive our left over inventory. Let me explain. The president of the UAE passed away on the 13th of May and the Emiratis went into a 40 day mourning period. Their honor code and ours is totally different. Very recently, two of our former presidents passed away. I remember my mum asking me if we we were going to pay our respects and I was actually astonished by that question. Here, life casually went on. The death of the beloved Sheikh Al Zayed along with the stringent measures of the Dubai government caused the delays with our inventory. I would advise anyone brave enough to embark on an Expo to: Count the cost; Time. Do you have 3 years? 1 for prep, 1 for implementation and another for post event analysis and processing. Resources, financial, social capital friends who believe in your dream, technical skills and know how. How ready are you? Sweat equity, the investment in effort you will apply. That along with emotional investment. Your emotions are going to be pulled left right and center. You know how intelligent we like to sound when we talk about emotional intelligence or otherwise? Hiyo! You might just go to the ends of the earth to find it. I conclude this series with this, I didn't have a bank roller  aka sponsor nor did I know anybody who helped me go up the ranks. No amount of name dropping could have helped solve some of the issues I highlighted. With faith, things may still appear difficult but this is your chance to partner with God and He will show the world who He is through you and you will be a torch bearer for generations coming behind you. Saudi Arabia beat Italy to host the World Expo in 2030. It plans to spend $7.8bn on the event. The move is part of a multi-billion-dollar push by the crown prince, Muhammad bin Salman, to diversify the country’s oil-dependent economy and remake its international image. Riyadh Expo 2030 and Beyond With the inspiration of hosting the #Expo2030 in #Riyadh, increased consumer awareness in #Saudi, and fierce competition racing the deliveries by the minute (15-30 minutes), we expect very exciting times ahead! This event will revolutionize our logistics sector, offering faster and more efficient orders and shipment deliveries. Imagine ordering online and receiving your items in record time; that's the progress we're discussing. Both local and international shipments will benefit from this efficiency boost. But, with growth comes challenges. The increase in package volumes could lead to potential congestion and delays. #SaudiArabia is countering this with smart, tech-driven strategies. Investments in #AI, automated systems, and intelligent data analysis are underway to optimize everything from shipments/orders delivery to traffic management; the rest lies in the private sector to invest in the right direction. Expo 2030 is more than just a logistical challenge; it's a strategic move for economic growth. While hosting such large-scale events involves significant investment, the long-term benefits are invaluable. It's an opportunity to showcase our capabilities in managing mega/giga projects, attracting foreign investment, and boosting #tourism. The giant effect of this will be felt in our infrastructure development, too. Improvements for the Expo 2030 will serve far beyond the event, enhancing our country's overall economic landscape and attracting more business and investment opportunities. With the 2024 deadline for international corporates to move their regional offices to Riyadh (3 weeks from now), we're anticipating an influx of businesses and people, an exchange of expertise, and high expectations in #logistic services. This move aligns with our vision of becoming a regional hub, leveraging experiences from globally recognized logistic leaders. As we prepare for Expo 2030, it will also pave the way for a successful event and the possibility of hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2034. So, does hosting such events pay back quickly or cover the preparation expenses? Those events are costly and may "only sometimes" cover their preparation expenses directly; however, the long-term financial benefits can be significant. Saudi Arabia's eagerness to host these events is a strategic move. What's the significance of Saudi Arabia winning the bid to host Expo 2030 in Riyadh? It aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and its international brand building and job creation objectives. Economic diversification and job creation is at the heart of Vision 2030. Tourism is an integral part of that vision with an initial target of 100 million visitors a year revised to 150 million visitors - 50% international and 50% domestic - with a contribution of 10% of GDP. "Tourism is the new oil" How do they do that? A playbook of building: - world class destinations and experiences in the country - - a world class airline and aviation hub - global mass marketing - hosting major global events with high footfall and eyeballs It's a playbook that Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar have already deployed well, hosting major events from the World Cup to the Expo, building global airlines and mega airports and sponsoring sports teams around the world. Saudi now has: - Formula One in Jeddah (Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Qatar are also on the calendar) - Expo 2030 (Expo 2020 in Dubai brought 24 million visits and $42 billion in economic benefits) - World Cup 2034 (Qatar hosted it in 2022) - a new airline - Riyadh Air | طيران الرياض - plans to upgrade their airports - an estimated 300+ global sports sponsorships Expect to see "Visit Saudi" every time you watch a sport and on billboards around the world. I've spent half of the last decade in the Middle East, working on large, ambitious projects in Saudi Arabia and have witnessed firsthand the most unbelievable transformation in its society and economy. The Kingdom had one of the most impressive pavilions at Expo 2020 in Dubai (photo of mine below) and it was very clear that reshaping the global image and narrative of Saudi Arabia was the central objective and visible in every single detail of the pavilion. An impressive movie featuring John Travolta had a young Saudi woman telling him that she was going to tell him a story he had never heard before and went on to drive a sports car (huge symbolism) and show him how the Kingdom was transforming.
