It's National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible men and women who keep our world moving. Truck drivers do the kind of work that many others couldn’t – or wouldn’t – do. They endure long hours on the road, often away from their families, in all kinds of weather and conditions. They navigate the highways while the rest of us sleep, making sure the things we need – from the clothes we wear to the food on our tables – get to where they need to be. **Let’s face it – everything we touch, eat, or use has spent time on a truck at some point.** And yet, truck driving is a job that doesn’t always get the respect it deserves. It’s hard work, mentally and physically. It takes grit, resilience, and humility – qualities that might test the ego of many, but our drivers rise above it every day. Now that truck driver appreciation week is over, we can go back to our regularly scheduled programming of treating drivers like trash and ignoring them. Just kidding. But it feels that way sometimes, doesn’t it? Celebrate something on the designated day. Then completely forget about it and move on. I’ve had some long conversations with drivers just because I said hi and asked if they drove. The one-eared headset is usually a pretty good giveaway. Some still wear uniforms with their company logo on the chest or shoulder. Some of these drivers are dying for a good conversation. 15 minutes can be enough to make someone's day or week. It’s sad.  It’s a lonely job.  It’s a tough job. They don’t get no respect.  Like Rodney Dangerfield. We can help drivers a lot just by driving safely and courteously.  Oh, and treating them with a little respect and kindness.  That’s all it takes to show some appreciation. Woohoo Day 1 of Truck Driver Appreciation Week is here. Each Monday many truck drivers leave their families, pets, and friends at home and spend the next 14hrs working for the day. Usually 10 of those hours are spent operating a 80’L x 11.5’W x 80,000lb piece of equipment down the road.
