🌅 Tropical, warm sunset colors have inspired TikTok’s latest make-up craze: sunset blush. The look originally created by TikTok creator Alissa Janay is reminiscent of a beachside golden hour with a palette of vibrant pinks, rich red-orange hues, and shimmering gold. Dabbing two dots of pink and two dots of orange liquid blush, followed by one swipe of gold highlighter, the blended result resembles the tropics at dusk. Now seen over eight million times on TikTok, Alissa’s sun-soaked make-up look has been recreated and adapted by many with various blush colors and textures, setting a new trend for the summer. Unlike previously seen blush trends like last summer’s “tomato girl make-up” or this winter’s “après-ski make-up” that focused on recreating the looks of natural red cheeks — like after having spent an afternoon on a beach in the Mediterranean or having worn ski goggles under the mountain sun — this application doesn’t replicate natural blushing. Rather the sunset blush trend is a creative, endorphin-boosting interpretation that can easily be recreated with just a few products. The key to a beautifully blended sunset blush is to use products of similar formula to avoid one pigment overpowering another and allow for a seamless blend. My cactus is wearing a beautiful yellow flower in her hair for the summer! 🌵😎 Two years ago, I inherited three cacti, knowing nothing about them and not particularly excited about them. This, despite fond memories from my childhood of my maternal grandmother's collection of cacti in all shapes and sizes. But these little plants are bringing me so much joy! 🤍 Last year, I was delighted to find one blooming stunning white flowers. ❤️ A couple of weeks ago, another surprised me with a short-lived, but VIBRANT red flower. 💛 And today, a big yellow bloom appeared on my lemon ball cactus. Each cactus is perfect in its own beautiful, unique way. They've taught me that with the right care and attention (in a sauna-like conservatory!), they will keep plodding on and then blossom into being. As humans, we need similar conditions (minus the hot conservatory 🥵) to nurture our unique qualities and do our best work. For me, this means walks in nature listening to birdsong, observing the beauty in plants and flowers, cooking and eating good food, journaling, exploring new places and things, and engaging in deep and meaningful conversations with friends and like-minded business people. I need time and space to gain perspective and draw inspiration and creativity for my design work. Inspired by a wonderfully nourishing journaling session with Bee Higgins today, I'm reminded of the power of nurturing our unique qualities.
