Have you ever made your own hamburger buns? 🍔
I did this weekend. My son turned 10 years old, and he asked me to invite family and friends over for lunch to eat hamburgers. So, I ended up in the kitchen, making homemade hamburger buns by a process that reminded me of my daily work with #change. 🤔
The most important ingredient of the hamburger buns was the yeast. If I messed up this ingredient, I would mess up the size and taste of the dough – and with that, the birthday party.
So, how did I avoid messing up the yeast?
I used lukewarm water, not just cold water. I mixed all the other ingredients, such as sugar, salt, milk, egg, and flour, in the right proportions. I kneaded the sticky lump of flour for quite some time, turning it into a smooth ball of dough.
So, let’s come back to hamburger buns and change.
As yeast is the most important ingredient for hamburger buns, the informal change catalysts in every organization is the most important ingredient for succeeding with change.
If you don’t evenly balance other ingredients for activating and engaging the informal change catalysts, you will not succeed, and your most important ingredient will turn against you, just like what happens when the yeast is not given the proper attention.
And finally: how many guests turned up to a 10-year-old's birthday party?
