Following the prolonged uncertainty and economic challenges of COVID-19, the aviation industry has settled into a ‘new normal’. In the post-pandemic aviation landscape, many airports find themselves under pressure to improve commercial performance and provide returns to investors and owners. Some commercial teams have been able to provide year-on-year growth based purely on increased passenger numbers. But in many regions, this has not been possible. Indeed, airports continue to face the challenges of increased online activity and shifting consumer behaviour, as well as the unique barriers to transaction within terminal environments. So much to unpack on the topic of inclusivity and diversity in design. There's not a one-size-fits-all solution to creating an inclusive space. We all exist on a spectrum of different traits, neurologically and otherwise. However, the existence of sensory-specific spaces in public areas to create a more welcoming, comfortable environment for neurodivergent individuals is a step in the right direction. Imagine a future where we have a "choose your own adventure" model for transit and other spaces. Depending on your needs, wants, and desires, you can choose the optimal environment that best suits the experience you're looking for. I applaud the intention of this new space and looking forward to seeing how our industry, along with the necessary supporting partners and policies, support further inclusive practices and prioritize the human experience. However, we need to do so with a critical lens to ensure that the whole experience, from the process to the design of the space is truly hitting the mark and supportive of those it claims to be. The score displayed for "Wayfinding" is 4.28/ 5.00, with overall passenger satisfaction of 4.233/5.00. Customer-centricity transforms how metrics could be measured, and hence how experience could be improved.

This article underscores the importance of wayfinding in aviation, emphasising simplicity, clear signage, and passenger comfort. While traditional methods have their merits, they face challenges in busy areas. Notably, it doesn't explicitly discuss modern, human-centric solutions like WiseNav (known as Eyedog - Mobile Wayfinding in the USA and Europe). WiseNav uses landmark photo navigation, reducing stress and enhancing the passenger experience. Its agility is crucial post-pandemic, instantly rerouting travelers for safety and convenience. WiseNav also promotes sustainability by reducing physical signs and signblindness. It complements the use of smartphones for wayfinding, providing a web-based service with QR codes. Congratulations on the official opening of Changi Airport Terminal 2 Expansion (T2E)! Travellers can experience a fresh and immersive upgraded Terminal 2, which fully reopened on 1 Nov 2023 ahead of schedule. Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Mr. Teo Chee Hean graced the opening ceremony. T2 is now the largest of the airport’s four terminals after undergoing 3½ years of engineering and expansion works. The terminal’s handling capacity has climbed from 23 million to 28 million passengers a year, increasing Changi Airport’s overall yearly capacity to 90 million passengers. The expansion works have added more than 21,000 sqm – the size of about three football fields – to T2. Whether you’re a fan of technology or nature, there is a must-see feature for you in the departure transit area. Dreamscape is a new garden that brings together a digital LED display and more than 20,000 plants to give visitors an escape from the stressors of travel. Passengers can get a sense of time and place despite being indoors as the digital sky replicates real-time daylight and weather conditions using data from the airport’s weather system. This mesmerizing multi-sensorial garden integrates audio visual and nature beautifully and transits into short shows every 30 minutes, giving visitors the sense of being underwater, as “animals” swim by on the surface above them. Calls of birds, insects and other animals that were recorded in Singapore, including on Pulau Ubin, are projected throughout Dreamscape.
