Travel insurance is an oft neglected piece of the insurance world, and many people who know of it believe it only pertains to issues such as trip cancellation and baggage loss. However, it can also cover a traveler in case of a serious medical event overseas - something one Michigan man, Vincent Wasney, didn't know until he experienced one himself. According to KFF, a seizure Wasney experienced on a cruise cost him and his wife all the money in their shared bank account and then some; they were even required to pay $2,500.22 for onboard medical services before the cruise line allowed them to seek necessary care on land. We were saddened to hear of Wasney's situation and thought it imperative to share his story. We hope his story will help prevent scenarios like this from occurring in the future by raising awareness that a medical event can happen anywhere, anytime, and travel insurance can protect you and your assets if it does. While our focus at Ignitist is primarily on the DSNP population, we do have a relationship with travel insurance company GeoBlue, which does excellent work helping clients navigate their travel insurance options.
