Keep your eyes out for this absolutely stunning advert putting Welsh farmers front and centre across our screens in 2024. I still LOVE working on this campaign, and showcasing Wales provenance and farming experts. But it's actually a lot more scientific behind the scenes, so I thought I'd share some really interesting considerations when planning and buying TV . 1. TV has the highest weekly saturation point. It's crucial to take into account diminishing return curves per channel for the most effective campaigns. 2. Context matters. High quality, professionally-made video content drives 60% higher ad recall than non-professional content. 3. Live TV viewing is still very much alive and particularly key for events we want to share in together (Olympics, Paralympics, Euro's, Glastonbury) 4. Mood state matters. 89% of shared viewing occasions happen in the living room, compared with 7% in the bedroom, 2% in the kitchen and 3% in another room which according to BARB has a marked increase on ad recall. 5. Eyes and ears do not work independently – memory levels are impacted by total cognitive load. So whilst dual screen viewing may be happening, TV advertising is still actively able to reach those audiences There are so many different ways you can encompass TV into your marketing mix based on your campaign objectives with the ecosystem evolving all the time as we access more data, and innovation in technology. Reference check: Thinkbox have done extensive research with partners in this area so do go to their website for further reading on the above stats. Malak El-Gonemy It’s powerful to hear Youssef’s experiences, and it’s a stark reminder of the hurdles that actors from underrepresented backgrounds continue to face. Being “othered” by the industry goes far beyond typecasting—it affects the opportunities actors are given, how their talents are perceived, and even basic things like booking a hotel. For Youssef, getting his foot in the door clearly hasn’t meant an open door; instead, it’s involved a series of barriers, adjustments, and sacrifices. His story shows just how much work the entertainment industry still has to do to create a genuinely level playing field. It also reminds us that “breaking in” to the industry isn’t the same for everyone. Some actors have to navigate far more complex, and often invisible, challenges to find success. Hearing from people like Youssef can be a real wake-up call for the industry to look closely at its biases and take real steps toward inclusivity.
A fascinating chat with Moroccan-British actor, Youssef Kerkour. The star of Home, Significant Other, We Might Regret This and Disclaimer opens up about feeling othered by the industry, why ‘getting your foot in the door’ isn’t the same for everyone, and having to change his name to get a hotel booking. #tv #othering #typecasting #comedy #britishtv #diversity

Career Limiting Move of the Week – Taking a Parent to the Interview “Fisk” is one of the most hilarious shows on TV. In episode 3 of season 3 (ABC iview), Ray’s girlfriend attends her son’s interview with Roz. It so brilliantly parodies reality.
