Combining laser scanning with photogrammetry gives you a visual layer of materials and design elements in an orthographic view. No single camera view can produce this result which can be highly valuable in preservation of key historic elements. Have You Heard of Dragon Ties in Historic Buildings? When we think about historic buildings, we often admire their charm and beauty, but behind the scenes, there’s some incredible engineering that keeps them standing. One fascinating feature found in older timber-framed buildings is the dragon tie. So, what is a dragon tie? It’s a diagonal timber beam used in the corners of buildings, particularly in medieval and Tudor timber-framed houses. Its purpose is to support the structure where walls meet at right angles, helping to distribute the roof load and strengthen the frame. Think of it as an early (and elegant) form of reinforcement! Dragon ties allowed builders to achieve larger overhangs – those striking jettied upper floors that give historic buildings their iconic look. As we work to preserve these structures today, it’s a reminder of how traditional building techniques still inspire modern solutions. Does anyone know why they are referred to a dragon ties? There are a few theories…….. #HistoricBuildings #Architecture #TraditionalCraftsmanship #TimberFrame #BuildingConservation #Engineering

🪨🌱🪨 Natural stone, when used in architecture shows... Ancient builders had deep knowledge about environmental conditions and the physical needs of humans in their search for shelter. Regardless of technological advances and the evolution of our perception of the world around us, this kind of knowledge and relationship with our surroundings can still be applied today and adapted to our current context. Natural stone, when used in architecture shows just that, as we explore its many different styles and applications. 🪨🌱🪨 #design #stone #construction #residential #architecture #interiordesign

Germany has a history of precast construction that predates 1900. 1. Roman Aqueducts and Bathhouses (Cologne, Xanten) - Used prefabricated stone blocks for infrastructure. 2. Hildegarde’s School (Bingen) - Employed modular stone elements in construction. 3. St. Michael's Church (Hildesheim) - Featured modular stone blocks in its Romanesque architecture. 4. Nuremberg Castle - Utilized large cut stone blocks for medieval construction. 5. Cologne Cathedral - Incorporated large, prefabricated stone elements in its Gothic architecture. These examples reflect early forms of modular construction using stone, precursors to modern precast methods. #PrecastConcrete #Construction #BusinessDevelopment #Innovation #BIM #PrecastDesign #ConstructionIndustry #Networking #Germany #GermanyConstruction #GermanyPrecast

🌿 Preserving History: The art of stone masonry in listed buildings 🌿 Restoring historic buildings involves carefully working with original materials; stone, timber, brick, or plaster, that have aged over decades or centuries. The goal is to stabilise and conserve these elements, maintaining the building’s authenticity and structural integrity. This work requires technical expertise in traditional construction methods and materials, as well as problem solving for issues like weathering, decay and previous unsuitable repairs. Each project is a hands-on challenge, blending craftsmanship with an understanding of heritage conservation principles. Brutalist architecture, one of the most influential trends of the 20th century, is characterized by the use of raw concrete, bold geometric shapes, and functional spaces. This style prioritizes structural honesty and functionality, exposing materials and elements that reflect its authentic and solid essence. #BrutalistArchitecture #IconicDesign #ModernStyle #ArchitecturalHistory #RawConcrete

Documentation on Historic Tomb: Unveiling Architectural Heritage Our latest project involves the meticulous documentation of a historic tomb to understand its existing condition and original form. The structure, crafted from Lakhauri bricks—a lightweight alternative used due to the scarcity of stone—reveals fascinating construction techniques of its era. Key Findings: Material: Lakhauri bricks with lime stucco ornamentation. Condition: Chipped plaster, loss of ornamentation, and two developing structural cracks needing immediate attention. This documentation is crucial for preserving our architectural heritage and ensuring informed conservation efforts. #ConservationArchitecture #ArchitecturalHeritage #HistoricPreservation #Architecture #Conservation Connect with fellow conservation architects and enthusiasts to share insights and expertise!
