Mario Draghi’s report on the future of EU competitiveness highlights many critical aspects of Europe’s strengths and weaknesses, proposing concrete measures that can be achieved in the medium and long term. Few takeaways that are of utmost importance for the #circular #biobased sector: - The central role of innovation to maintain a competitive edge on the global scale; - The need to address the barriers to commercialisation and scaling up of promising technologies, fundamental to keep our talents – especially from SMEs – in Europe; - The combination of de-fossilisation and competitiveness as a key opportunity for economic growth; - The need to gather strong financial support both from the public and private sector to boost investments in clean technologies. These messages resonate with the CBE JU stakeholder forum’s conclusions and are a key part of the European Commission’s communication on boosting biotech and biomanufacturing. Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) looks forward to collaborating with the European Commission and with Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) to support competitive sustainable technologies, to scale up and help the realisation of ambitious industrial projects in the context of the EU #bioeconomy and #circulareconomy. https://lnkd.in/etj3dSpN Rob Beekers John Bell EU Science, Research and Innovation EU Business

🌍 On Nov 21st, the BIOTRANSFORM project hosted a 2-hour online workshop in collaboration with the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP) to explore 𝘾𝙞𝙧𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝘽𝙞𝙤𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙮 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙙𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙚𝙨. 🌱 Key insights were shared by regional stakeholders from Finland, Greece, and beyond, discussing challenges, opportunities, and strategies for implementing #sustainable #bioeconomy practices. 💪 From Life cycle assessment (#LCA) analysis to regional governance models, the session showcased the power of collaboration in driving the transition to a circular, bio-based economy. 🍃 Kudos to our partner ACR+ | Association of Cities and Regions for sustainable Resource management for organising it! 👏 🎥 Catch the full EU Circular Talk and explore the presentations here: https://lnkd.in/dmDmc5xv #biotransform #bioeconomy #horizoneurope #circulareconomy VTT | Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) | VITO | CTA (Technological Corporation of Andalusia) | CluBE-Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia | CLIB - Cluster Industrielle Biotechnologie | BIOEAST HUB Czech Republic | ACR+ | Association of Cities and Regions for sustainable Resource management | Q-PLAN INTERNATIONAL

The political recognition of #bioeconomy is a long and twisted journey and we are right in the middle of it. Many giant steps have been made in the last years, and we have taken advantage of the momentum and opportunities that the environmental and socio-economic challenges are bearing. A lot has to be done now to translate willingness into results but be reassured that #biopeople around Europe have determination, skills and vision to make this happens.
The #bioeconomy is among the strategic priorities set by the European Union for the next 5 years! I’m very glad to see that the Council of the European Union commits to develop a more circular and resource efficient economy, driving forward the development of clean technologies, reaping the full benefits of the bioeconomy. Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) look forward to working together with the European Commission, the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) and the whole community to make these action concrete and further accelerate the development of the circular bioeconomy in Europe! Many other interesting elements in the EUCO strategic plan, including measures supporting research and innovation, competitiveness and business friendly environment, and supporting primary producers. https://lnkd.in/exgQSkrC John Bell Rob Beekers EU Science, Research and Innovation EU Business Peter Wehrheim Astrid Ladefoged Belgian Presidency of the Council of European Union Hungarian Presidency

I'm thrilled to announce that the study I supported alongside my esteemed partners from STOA has been officially published! 📚✨ Our study, titled "Closing the Blue Loops: Responsible and Sustainable Innovation in the Fields of Water and Ocean," evaluates the need and scope for an EIT Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) focused on water, marine, and maritime areas (KIC WMM). This report identifies existing gaps in innovation ecosystems and recommends thematic focus areas with the highest potential for technological development, market deployment, and benefits for EU citizens. Some key elements of our study include: 🔍 Analysis of key stakeholders, public engagement methods, funding mechanisms, and legal and regulatory barriers. 🌐 Policy recommendations to foster innovation and market deployment in alignment with the European Green Deal and other EU strategies. 💡 Highlighting high-impact technologies for sustainability goals and identifying areas needing further research and regulatory changes. Personally, I contributed to the analysis (SWOT, Gap analysis, Survey) and explored the links between the three components of the triple helix of innovation: Research, Training, and Industries. My particular focus was on the industrial branch within the technological and socio-economic context of the water, marine, and maritime sectors. I’m eagerly looking forward to discovering the proposals from various EU partners to turn this KIC into a reality. These collaborations aim to establish Co-Location Centers and Innovation Hubs that will drive sustainable advancements in the global blue economy. 🌊💧🚀 Thank you to everyone involved in making this study possible, and I can't wait to see the positive impact it will have on our industry! 📖 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gVY_skGR Siri Granum Carson Richard Sempéré Pentti Kujala Sveinung Sægrov #Innovation #Sustainability #WMMKIC #BlueEconomy #STOA #EUInnovation

EU bioeconomy project funding call with 213 M EUR launched! After a jam-packed Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Info Day, attended by our colleague Tatjana Schwabe-Markovic in Brussels yesterday, today the call has been opened for submissions. A total of 213 M EUR is available to fund a total of 18 research, innovation, and flagship actions. This year, we’re happy to see so many topics relevant to industrial #biotechnology and the interests of our members! One key criterium of CBE JU projects is the #industry involvement – this programme aims to realise the shift to a circular biobased economy in Europe. Networking, for example, in #OpenInnovation #clusters such as CLIB can be very helpful in finding the best partners across the EU. Proposals can be submitted until 18 September - it will be a busy summer for the bioeconomy community. Find all information here: https://lnkd.in/gpUsFCxC
