These are job postings that companies aren't actively hiring for. They might keep these listings up to gather resumes or to show they're growing. It's frustrating, but here are some tips to avoid them: 1. Check Posting Dates: If the job has been up for months, it might be a ghost. 2. Research the Company: See if they have other active listings and recent hires. 3. Look for Clues: Vague descriptions and no specific contact person can be red flags. Stay smart and don't get spooked by ghost vacancies!

I referred someone for a job at PepsiCo after their cold outreach on LinkedIn. I receive hundreds of DMs and rarely refer someone unless I can personally vouch for them. But this candidate stood out. Here's why: 1/ They were specific about the role they wanted. 2/ They offered to help me, even if I didn't refer them. 3/ The message was clear, with perfect grammar and formatting. 4/ Their message explained why they wanted the job and their offer. 5/ They made it easy to refer them, providing contact info and a sample DM. 6/ They researched my background and my connection to the hiring manager. That's how it's done. Don’t just send a resume with no context. Make it easy for someone to help you. The candidate allowed me to share their DM privately. Want the template?
