As a specialist Recruitment Consultant, it can often be hard to swallow some responses I often get from my prospects: "not wanting to use an agency" "agencies are too expensive" "we've tried agencies before and they didn't deliver" "we're using one who are doing it cheap for us" I understand the points to a certain extent, however I am only reaching out because I personally believe I can add value through my network that has taken years to build, I believe I can offer assistance in finding the best hires that there is out there for your business that are often not on the classic job boards. I don't reach out for quick wins, I have worked within the industry for long enough to understand that quick wins turn into long term losses. Just a couple of things to consider when replying to a recruiter who is genuine and honest.... 💭 Have you got time to head hunt on top of your daily duties? 💭 Have you got the time to pre-qualify a candidate prior to interview? 💭 Have you got the time to prepare all the shortlisted candidates for interview with the hiring manager? 💭 What happens if all the candidates interviewed aren't adequate, lets go back to square one. This is what I do ALL DAY, EVERY DAY often eating into evenings and weekends, it is a full-time job in itself. Even with the greatest will in the world I wouldn't be able to take on extra duties, because there simply isn't enough hours in the day to do so, so how are you managing to do it? Have you truly considered the cost of having a vacancy in your business that is an important hire, not only from a cost point of view, but how is it impacting productivity? Running a successful desk in recruitment is more than just about sending out masses of CVs. It's about understanding what your clients truly need. In the other firms, there's often a pressure to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. Recruiters end up presenting a barrage of candidates and feel compelled to send them on to the client, regardless of fit. But here's the catch: clients have specific requirements. They want someone with five years of experience, not a string of job hoppers who barely make the cut. And yet, recruiters keep sending them resumes that don't meet these criteria. I've been there, talking to candidates who look good on paper but fall short in crucial areas. They may have responded to my outreach, but upon deeper conversation, it's clear they don't quite fit the bill. Instead of trying to twist their skills to fit a role they're not suited for, I focus on providing value. I offer advice, record their details in our database, and keep the door open for future opportunities where they might be a better fit. It's about respecting the client's wishes and not bombarding them with irrelevant candidates. Sadly, many firms ignore this, preferring to throw everything at the wall and hoping something sticks. Let's prioritize quality over quantity, understanding over blind submissions.
