Today, we're spotlighting another CBFF grantee partner that organizes for policy and systems change at every level of government–all year round. We're thrilled to uplift Critical Resistance, an organization that works to build an international movement to end the prison industrial complex. Ahead of the 2024 election, Critical Resistance organized to inform voters about candidate stances and the implications of Prop 36.

Media obsessed with impact Farage’s 5 MPs can make - ignoring that it will be #LibDems with 71 MPs that now has a golden opportunity. (highest number since the Liberals in 1923). Two questions by Davey at every PMQ; automatic ‘official’ response to every debate; some guaranteed representation on key commons committees. Don’t waste it! Then there’s the Short Money funding, which helps opposition parties to recruit staff and maintain party offices at Westminster - another key research and publicity component. With 71 MPs will probably amount to well over £1m per year.

Strategic lawsuits against public participation, or ‘SLAPPs’, are a growing threat to our democracy and the fundamental right of ordinary people to use the law to challenge those in power. SLAPPs have a significant negative impact, even when unsuccessful, with a huge time and financial cost, and they chill public debate by making people feel unable to participate. As a recent UN report on SLAPPs notes, it is increasingly arguable that being subject to a SLAPP constitutes a human rights violation in and of itself. This is why @Greenpeace Australia Pacific and 82 other Australian organisations have signed an open letter calling for the Federal and State governments to pass anti-SLAPP legislation to protect our right to public participation. When our system allows corporations to flex their financial might through SLAPP suits, communities pay the price. It’s critical that this gap in our legislation is fixed immediately. https://lnkd.in/gtZcr_3m

Standing with Integrity – DA Pamela Price’s Fight for Justice In a political landscape often dominated by corporate interests and powerful unions, DA Pamela Price stands out as a true champion of the people. Unlike past District Attorneys, DA Price was elected by the people, not by accepting contributions from corporate donors or police unions. This independence allows her to make decisions based solely on justice and fairness, without the pressures of external influence. Since taking office, DA Price has boldly tackled tough issues, from prosecuting police misconduct to holding corporations accountable for exploiting vulnerable communities. Her leadership has resulted in over $20 million in settlements against corporations—5 times more than previous administrations—and she’s expanded services for victims, ensuring they get the justice they deserve. But this progress is now under attack. The recall against DA Price is a blatant attempt to undermine the will of the voters and take us back to a time when justice was for sale. It’s not just an attack on her—it’s an attack on the reforms that are making a difference in our community. This is the moment we must stand up for integrity, for justice, and for a DA who’s committed to serving the people—not the powerful. Together, we can protect the progress we’ve made. Together, we can #ProtectTheWin. #NoRecall #IntegrityInJustice #JusticeForAll #StandWithPrice

Unlike the Liberals and NDP, Premier Doug Ford and our government have made historic progress to increase access to #justice. We are asking the Federal government do their part, get tougher on crime, and help keep communities safe.
