👋 We spoke with Mat Galvin FCCT NPQH, Teach First Principal at The Macclesfield Academy, about how the school supported Jenny (pictured right) in taking a secondment to enhance her classroom knowledge and skills. “We supported one of our brilliant physics teachers, Jenny, to participate in an international teacher development residency at The European Organisation for Nuclear Research, or CERN, in Switzerland. “The opportunity augmented Jenny’s subject knowledge and provided an invaluable experience. “Investing in secondments like this is incredibly worthwhile for teachers and their pupils. They can bring back a wealth of new industry knowledge and experiences that teachers don’t have the opportunity to gain in the classroom. “However, accommodating opportunities like this can be challenging for some schools, especially those with tight budgets and serving communities facing deprivation, as we do. 👉 We’re calling on the government to invest in secondments for teachers through a central pot of funding. Innovative partnerships with businesses or international education institutions could deliver this on a national scale.

It was a such a joy to share my paper, entitled, "Cuba's Reintegration into the Inter-American System: The Treaty of Tlatelolco, the OAS, and the End of Latin America's Cold War," in DC last weekend. The award is for the development of a project titled 'SBIR Phase III R&D'. This project aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of research and development in physical engineering and life sciences. The award is for 4.92 years, starting from April 19, 2024, and ending on April 18, 2029. As a double major in both physics and political science with three minors, two club vice-presidencies, and a passion for nuclear energy advocacy, Micah Holsten is making the most of his time at Kennesaw State University. He has already conducted high-level undergraduate research in physics and now plans to conduct political science research before graduating in Spring 2025. In today’s rapidly changing world, the traditional structures of family and community are evolving. One significant consequence of this shift is the decline in inter-generational learning, particularly due to the rise of nuclear families. This trend represents a critical loss in the educational landscape. The wisdom, experiences, and values passed down from one generation to the next are invaluable. They provide context, continuity, and a deeper understanding of cultural and societal norms. However, the essence of education extends beyond formal schooling. It encompasses the knowledge and life lessons that elders impart to the younger generation. In nuclear families, children often miss out on these enriching interactions. As educators and community leaders, we must find innovative ways to bridge this gap. Whether through community programs, inter-generational events, or leveraging technology to connect different age groups, we must strive to preserve this vital aspect of education.
