Our team was thrilled to welcome community-based organizations from across the city to our office last month for our first-ever Access Health NYC Learning Circle! Our Learning Circles will serve as a space for our Access Health NYC awardees to collaborate on problem-solving, share resources, and network with one another as we work together to serve the health care access needs of AAPI New Yorkers. Our inaugural Learning Circle was dedicated to a discussion of mental health needs in our communities and the many reasons why more access to holistic and collective healing practices is critical. As co-administrators of Access Health NYC — a New York City Council-funded initiative – CACF is proud to be able to host these collaborative spaces for our awardees. For more on our approach to promoting collective healing through policy, check out our recent policy brief “Collective Healing: Moving Towards A More Community-Centered Approach to AAPI Mental Health Care" here: https://lnkd.in/edS4r9Av

🌟 Thank you for the opportunity to co-create this amazing resource. I hope this piques your interest in our new resource developed in collaboration with The Steve Fund. Mental health equity is a crucial aspect of creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all members of the campus community. 🌟 Our resource is designed to provide practical guidance for institutions looking to enhance their support for mental health equity. Here are some key recommendations highlighted in the resource: Assessing Institutional Preparedness: Start by conducting an anonymous survey for faculty and staff to gauge their awareness, understanding, and readiness to support mental health initiatives. This step is crucial in identifying areas for improvement and developing targeted strategies. 📊 Creating a Unique Training Plan: Develop a comprehensive training plan that addresses the specific needs and challenges faced by your institution. This could include workshops, seminars, and educational sessions aimed at increasing mental health literacy, reducing stigma, and promoting supportive behaviors. 🎓 Promoting Allyship and Advocacy: Encourage the development of a culture of allyship and advocacy within the campus community. Provide resources and training opportunities for individuals to become effective allies and advocates for mental health equity. 🤝 Implementing Effective Evaluation Systems: Establish mechanisms to evaluate the effectiveness of your mental health programs and initiatives. This could involve collecting feedback from students, faculty, and staff, tracking key metrics related to mental health outcomes, and making data-informed decisions to continuously improve your efforts. 📈 We believe that by implementing these recommendations, institutions can take meaningful steps toward creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for mental health on campus. We invite you to explore the full resource to gain further insights and actionable strategies. 📣 Our 2023 Report to the Community is now live, and it shows how far we’ve come in our mission to improve health care access and outcomes. Over the past year, we’ve been hard at work tackling some of the biggest challenges we face – like reducing health disparities, promoting early life health, and addressing behavioral health issues. Mental health and substance use disorders impact many individuals and families, often compounded by stigma and barriers to accessing care. That’s why we’re dedicated to breaking down these barriers through our integrated care models, community outreach, and strong partnerships with behavioral health providers. Inside the report, you’ll find stories of how we’ve invested in our community including programs to boost children’s social and emotional well-being and our response to extreme weather events that impact us all. We hope you take a moment to explore our achievements and ongoing efforts to support and uplift our community. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gcsVqTR5

With Mental Health America, we're humbled to announce the launch of the new Equity Impact Zone (EIZ) grant program designed to address mental health equity gaps within local New Jersey communities. Understanding that factors such as housing, income, food security, safety, and freedom from discrimination are known to be key social drivers of mental health inequity, the mission of the EIZ program is to empower community-based organizations to implement resources tailored to the unique needs of their members. Recipients of the inaugural grants are Young Audiences (YA) New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania in Burlington County, and the Mental Health Association of New Jersey (MHANJ) in Trenton. At Otsuka, we hold a deep respect for the value of every mind. We will not rest until mental illnesses and brain diseases are recognized as chronic diseases that warrant early, equitable, and accessible intervention for patients and caregivers everywhere. Consultant/Speaker/Expert/Trainer. Raising awareness and finding solutions for behavioral health and justice.
As so many of us know, childhood experiences can impact health for life. "Self-Healing Communities" explores how communities work together to create healthier futures for all. This report offers a roadmap for building communities that understand and support those impacted by adverse childhood experiences. What I love in particular is how simple, practical efforts like educating about ACEs, being intentionally inclusive of all community members, and ensuring that policy is adaptive to the effects of interventions make a difference in building resilience and reducing trauma. Biscuits, a cup of tea, and an interactive task on 'understanding health systems' made for a fun morning at the Active Devon team day. Learning is one of my core values, and listening to Gareth Dix is always a pleasure. It's a complex picture, but I have come away with a fire in my belly to develop our work further. #ActiveDevon #HealthSystems #Learning #ProfessionalDevelopment
Great to lead a creative interactive morning session for Active Devon on ‘understanding health systems’ and the role of physical activity in prevention and treatment. Lots of discussion around complexity, connectivity and collaboration. Also much thinking sharpened by the recent Darzi report. Still find it fascinating that Lord Darzi rightly highlights Mental Health, Cancer treatment and Cardiovascular intervention as areas of focus and need, and the unequivocal evidence of physical activity as both a factor in prevention and supporting the management of these conditions. Further great conversations and learning from those with experience in the afternoon with our GP board member Kay Brennan, and CEO of a Torridge CVS Rebecca Sharples and Mental Health Alliance lead for Northern Devon Phil Harris, all helping bring to life the reality that our health, well being and care is a multi-partner system collective with community (place) at the heart.
