Patient participation and retention in clinical research can be heavily impacted by the quality of the Patient Information Sheet (PIS) presented to them when considering taking part in a trial. I have worked in human clinical research for over 20 years and I am fully aware of the time and effort that goes into these documents. However, if we are honest with ourselves, we know that many patients do not always read the whole document, and more significantly it's common when speaking to a patient to hear how little information they have understood and/or retained. There must be a balance between providing essential details without overwhelming patients. The way the document is written, the font and size, the use of visuals and the overall length and content will have a marked effect on the information a patient will takeaway from the document and this can have a significant impact on the decision to participate in the research. In this article I provide my view on what should be considered when creating a PIS that is genuinely informative and compliant. I welcome your thoughts and feedback on this important topic! Clinical research is notoriously challenging, with a myriad of a factors like study start-up, protocol complexity, principal investigator (PI) involvement, community engagement, patient recruitment and retention, or any of a wealth of other factors. Few, if any, sure-fire combinations of ingredients have proven to work for every audience in every setting. Two #ACRP2024 panels included seasoned experts who shared valuable insights on promoting efficiency and inclusivity in clinical trials, offering their "secret sauce" recipe for success. Patient recruitment in clinical research can be challenging, but there are ways to make it effective and engaging for patients. According to one clinical researcher, the best strategy is to create a teachable moment and experience for patients. And what better way to structure your recruitment and retention strategy/goals than over a cup of coffee ☕️ with a clinical research friend or colleague? By working together, we can achieve more and create a positive impact on patient recruitment. So next time you're struggling with recruitment, consider reaching out to a colleague and bonding over a cup of coffee. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of patients and advance the field of clinical research. #patientcentric #patientrecruitmemt

🌟Why is it important to have diverse patient populations in clinical trials?🌟 ✅️ It ensures that the results of the trial are applicable to a wider range of people, including those from different ethnic and racial backgrounds, genders, ages, and with different medical histories. ✅️ It can help identify potential differences in how different groups of people respond to treatments, which can inform future research and drug development. ✅️ Including diverse patient populations in clinical trials is a matter of equity and social justice, as historically marginalized groups have been underrepresented in clinical research. By promoting diversity in clinical trials, we can work towards a more equitable healthcare system for all. Learn more at https: //https://lnkd.in/d_vJptQq #ClinicalResearch #PatientDiversity

When it comes to enhancing the clinical research experience for patients and caregivers, transparency matters. Attracting participants is the first hurdle in a clinical research study. A survey conducted by Advanced Clinical and StuffThatWorks, 90% of respondents wished to understand how long the study would last, how many visits there are, and the required logistics of travel to a site before deciding if they should participate. A secondary challenge is how to improve the research experience for a participant. The same survey revealed that 42% of respondents would have liked a study website with accessible information for patients / caregivers. The lack of diversity in clinical trials can leave certain populations underrepresented and without treatments tailored to their specific needs, which sometimes limits the efficacy for all. Addressing these concerns, our Founder & CEO, Dr. Harsha K Rajasimha, Ph.D., emphasizes the importance of finding a flexible eConsent solution that allows remote, in-person, and paper-based consent to increase trial diversity in rural areas. He also suggests that patients should have access to study information on their devices and be allowed to ask questions. To ensure comprehension, a scored quiz can be used. Take a deep dive into the article titled 'Thought Leaders Explore New Ways to Promote Clinical Trial Diversity' by ACRP - Association of Clinical Research Professionals where influential thinkers are on a mission to revolutionize clinical trials. These trailblazers are implementing various initiatives, such as community engagement and personalized outreach, to ensure that medical studies are more inclusive and representative. https://hubs.la/Q02gLN210 #Diversity #InnovationInResearch #HealthEquity #clinicaltrials
