Hey guys I've spent the last few weeks studying dark pools and wrote a comprehensive piece comparing traditional ones with their crypto counterparts that are privacy-preserving on transparent blockchains. I've looked into the underlying privacy architecture of pure-play crypto dark pools like Renegade, and Portal Gate, and general privacy defi protocols like Railgun, Panther, and Penumbra (Cosmos). Each of them uses Zero Knowledge Proofs at several instances in the order life cycle to keep order details hidden/shielded. So I've traced the journey of an order, from the initial wallet setup to order discovery, matching, liquidity sourcing, and, ultimately, settlement. Throughout this journey, the order details remain concealed from numerous parties involved in the process. I've looked into why dark pools in crypto make sense, their business models, and how they are different from OTC trades.  I've delved into different methods they use to maintain privacy while being compliant. I just watched a clip of Charles Hoskinson’s (CEO, IOHK) whiteboard explanation explanation of 3rd-gen cryptos. While being heavy on technical details, the primary message breaks down how decentralised systems could mix with legacy technology. 3 essential components: 1. Metadata: contains private txn info. A smart 3rd-gen crypto (for purpose of this tweet, denoted as 3GC) should offer certain levels of openness without revealing all private info. 2. Attribution: Concerning identity on both ends of a txn. The problem here is the availability of ‘trust’ for parties to offer their identity. 3GC will work well with traditional platforms if identification verifications are satisfactory for these platforms. This leads to the final point of disconnect: 3. Compliance: The decentralised world is much laxed in identifying users. 3GCs would have to sort a trade off that guarantees certain aspects of decentralisation & compliance with centralised regulations (KYC, AML) in order to furnish a workable solution with legacy systems. These 3 attributes would induce the Interoperability, Scalability and Sustainability of any crypto. And would make it an absolute gem to buy.

In #DeFi nobody knows you are a dog #Identities are an essential aspect of information systems (IS) as they allow users of a #digital ecosystem to interact, build trust, and form relationships. Decentralized finance (DeFi) is a digital, #blockchain-based ecosystem that has seen tremendous growth in the last years, however, struggles with current identity implementations. While academics and practitioners have identified numerous implications, a scientific systematization of the role of identities in DeFi and their potentials and challenges is missing. By conducting a multivocal literature review, the authors rigorously gather the current knowledge and aggregate the different perspectives and concepts to present (I) a comprehensive conceptualization of identities in DeFi, (II) their potentials and challenges, and (III) concepts to manage the tension in between. Thereby, they aim to lay a foundation for future research on identities that increase DeFi's security, efficiency, and adoption while minimizing or eliminating the drawbacks for data #privacy and #censorship.
