Dr. J.J. Harman with co-authors C. Giancarlo, D. Lorandos and B. Ludmer are thrilled to receive the Ned Holstein Shared Parenting Research award from the National Parents Organization, announced on April 25th. Our paper, which was published in Children and Youth Services Review in December of 2023, took a data analysis approach to determine the accuracy of hypotheses that in court cases where parental alienation is claimed mothers lose custody of their children to abusive fathers at an “alarming” rate. Through analysis of 500 trial court cases, these claims were found to be false. The impact of this research was recognized through this award that is given to authors of the best article or book published in the previous 12 months relating to the mission of National Parents Organization (NPO) – to improve the lives of children and strengthen society by protecting every child’s right to the love and care of both parents when divorced or separated, through scientific research-based advocacy. https://lnkd.in/gM3znHug

YMC Staff and youth participants attend #YOUTHDAYS2023 in Washington D.C to learn about #publicpolicy, #advocacy, and meet with key federal decision makers. In youth-led sessions, youth advocates and young adults discussed several topics such as education, youth #mentalhealth, gun violence, and youth employment. This opportunity allows youth to gain expertise on how federal law impacts their life and community. It also teaches youth how to efficiently advocate for social equity and justice. #mentoringmovement

Survivor. Speaker. Advocate. Trained Forensic Interviewer.
1moPresenting at another conference the week before this but hope to submit an RFP next year! As a child who went through the CAC at 12 years old, turned my pain to purpose and worked at a cac for 6 years as family advocate and forensic interviewer, and as a survivor who shares my story across the country to inspire TEAMS and EDUCATE, I love events to provide funding for CAC’s! 🩵 If you ever need a speaker for a fundraising or conference event (I’ve done both many times) or otherwise please reach out :) Inquire by emailing melaniesjourneyspeaks@gmail.com 🎤❤️ Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the work your teams do!
