Attending CES for the first time, let's meet up! 👨💻 Looking forward to attending #ces2024 this week with my colleagues, Tim Hsia and Carina Cho at Context VC. Flying out tonight and I'm excited to explore everything it has to offer--this will be my first year attending. Unrelated/related topic: I'm curious if people have thoughts when it comes to #AI and LinkedIn posts. More specifically #AIArt. Do you use it? Are you a fan or not? IMO, AI art--for the most part--is awful for LinkedIn posts. Disclaimer, the art I used on this post is AI-generated--and the irony is not lost on me. More often than not, it falls within the uncanny valley, the text never makes sense, and the more you look at it, the worse it gets. The image distracts more than it helps. With that being said, posts that include an image tend to perform better than text only. Why? Because the large image captures attention--think about the rough number of posts you respond to that include images compared to just text. But rather then use unlicensed photos, people seem to be leaning on AI for quick art. I'm genuinely curious as to why people are choosing AI art. Perhaps I'm being too critical, or noticing issues that most overlook, or that people just enjoy using a new tool. It'll be interesting to see if this is just a fad or if AI art will become the de-facto illustrator of social media posts.

AI for Everyone? My Meetup Mishap (in a Good Way) Let's be honest, tech meetups can get same-old, same-old. So, with a thirst for something new (outside my usual AI domain at CellStrat), I ventured out to the intriguingly named "Tech Nibba & Nibbis" meetup by Vandit Jain This new group surprised me! Instead of the usual suspects, I found a vibrant mix: * A bright-eyed engineering student * A cloud whiz from a top 3 global petroleum company in Bankok (who knew?) * A developer from a popular Indian gaming company. * A fashion startup scaling their business with tech. * A team from a UAV startup. * A corporate gifting company professional. * A retail owner embracing technology in an innovative way to get customers walk into his retail outlets to take his business to the next level. Each person brought a unique perspective, and the conversation flowed. But one theme kept recurring: "How can I jump on the AI bandwagon?" There's no doubt #AI is hot right now. Everyone wants a piece of the action. But here's the not-so-secret secret (with a hint of humor): the big money in AI often comes from global clients, not always domestic ones.
