We recently ran a campaign on LinkedIn highlighting our offering to veterans which has received great support, and thanks to those of you that shared and commented. It has generated an interesting conversation around who qualifies as a 'veteran'.  The definition of a 'veteran' varies from country to country. For example, in New Zealand it is a very exclusive term as only those former service personnel who served before 1 April 1974 and those with qualifying operational service after that date qualify as a 'veteran'. In the US, anyone who served in the active military and who left under conditions other than dishonourable qualify. The UK Government's definition of "anyone who has served for at least one day in His Majesty's Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve) or Merchant Mariners who have seen duty on legally defined military operations" is probably the most inclusive. It is this wide definition that military charities work to when providing their support and it is also the one that we at Trinity adhere to. We feel that those who volunteered to serve, and served - no matter for how short or long, deserve the very best in return. #military #armedforcescommunity #veterans #veteranshelpingveterans

Military spouses demonstrate tremendous strength and patriotism, constantly adapting to frequent changes and unexpected life developments. They prepare for many unknowns during military life, unable to make a plan for more than a few days in advance. During deployments, training, and many other circumstances, military spouses hold down the home front while their husband or wife serves their country. Depending on the length of service, they may move many times and often all over the world. Military spouses spend many months apart during stressful deployments with limited communication or training. Today, we honor and appreciate military spouses' hard work and dedication. 🌺Today marks Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand, commemorating those who have served, and continue to do so, in the armed forces. As we pause to reflect on the unique sacrifice of those lost to war this #AnzacDay, let us not forget those who’ve suffered physically and mentally due to their military service. Stats from the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide report that at least 1677 serving and ex-serving sailors, soldiers and aviators were lost to suicide between 1997 and 2021. That’s 20x the number of service personnel killed in active combat over the same period. Let us strive to honour the legacy of those who have served and those still serving by upholding the values they fought for. Recognise the lifelong impacts of military service and remind ourselves of the importance and strength that comes from mateship. The statistics are horrifying, but we can each make a difference.
