The war in Sudan has created the world's largest displacement crisis as people flee the fighting. Our local partners are working to support both displaced people and the communities hosting them. For example, by distributing hygiene kits that minimise the risk of disease spreading and we're providing centrifugal pumps to improve the water supply. https://lnkd.in/dy4PKyGz

Famine, disease and dehydration threaten to create a “triangle of death” in Palestine’s Gaza, warned Ashraf al Qudra, the spokesperson for the Palestinian health ministry in the enclave. Intentionally creating food insecurity and using starvation as a weapon of war were declared war crimes by the UN Security Council in 2018, but this cruel tactic continues to be employed by Israel to cripple Gaza’s population. In the past 90 days, Israeli restrictions on food supplies entering besieged Gaza have left almost the entire population facing crisis levels of hunger and starvation, coupled with increasing levels of malnutrition. Water pipelines in Gaza are controlled by Israel, and even before October 7, more than 97 percent of the enclave’s drinking water was below the minimum health standards for human consumption. As part of its ongoing military campaign, Israel has targeted facilities such as operating stations, water wells, sewage pumps and rainwater pumps, further deepening the water crisis.

One more round of the The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification for Gaza strip reflecting the suffering and the struggle of civilians through the worse man-made catastrophe in this era, or maybe since ever! We in the humanitarian community are forced to discuss whether a famine is confirmed or not, while we can see hunger signs physically for months and months till people reached a level of food delivery doesn't matter anymore as the done damage by acute malnutrition, limited clean water, lack of basic health services, extreme heat, military offensive targeting civilians, displacement, stress...etc. can't be reverted anymore for many individuals who are standing at the edge of life, and more people will be going to this stage and can be protected now but not tomorrow... "About 96 percent of the population in the Gaza Strip (2.15M people) face high levels of acute food insecurity through September 2024." IPC AFI Analysis, round III

In the midst of relentless conflict, Sudan now faces a devastating cholera outbreak, claiming 316 lives, as reported by the WHO. This tragedy is not just the result of a bacterium but a reflection of how war magnifies suffering. The destruction of infrastructure, lack of access to clean water, and disrupted healthcare services have turned this outbreak into a catastrophe. We must stand in solidarity with Sudan, advocating for peace and supporting efforts to restore basic human needs. The world cannot turn a blind eye to this dual tragedy. #Sudan #CholeraOutbreak #WarAndHealth #HumanitarianCrisis

Landry Mbere 💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧💧 Africa water disaster touching the element 🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐 The water crisis in Africa is indeed a significant issue, touching on multiple elements such as access to clean water, sanitation, health, and socio-economic development. It's a complex problem that requires sustainable solutions and international cooperation to address effectively. Solution Addressing the water crisis in Africa requires a multi-faceted approach: ♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️ Investment in Infrastructure: Building and maintaining water infrastructure, including wells, pipelines, and treatment plants, to improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities. Promoting Water Conservation: Encouraging efficient water use through education and the adoption of water-saving technologies. Enhancing Governance: Improving governance and management of water resources through policies, regulations, and institutional reforms to ensure equitable distribution and sustainable management. Community Engagement: Involving local communities in decision-making processes, empowering them to manage water resources sustainably and participate in water-related initiatives. Harnessing Technology: Leveraging technology such as water purification systems, drip irrigation, and remote sensing to improve water quality, efficiency, and monitoring. International Cooperation: Encouraging collaboration between governments, NGOs, and international organizations to mobilize resources, share best practices, and implement coordinated strategies to address the water crisis effectively. These solutions need to be tailored to the specific context and needs of different regions within Africa, taking into account factors such as climate variability, population growth, and socio-economic conditions. The intensifying conflict in #DRCongo's North Kivu Province is causing mass displacement, with devastating consequences. As families flee to neighbouring South Kivu Province, cholera is spreading rapidly in overcrowded displacement sites. In Minova, a cholera endemic area in South Kivu, the number of cases has increased significantly, from 6 per week in early January to 40 per week by mid-March. Trapped between the horrors of conflict and the threat of disease, displaced people need more support. Without urgent and effective action, they face the risk of a cholera outbreak with dire consequences and more suffering. Read more about this escalating crisis: https://lnkd.in/db8yhmhC

This [humanitarian] situation is the direct result of the string of unconscionable decisions taken by Israeli authorities while waging this war: a relentless bombing and shelling campaign, a complete siege imposed on the enclave, the bureaucratic hurdles and lack of security mechanisms to ensure #safefood distribution from southern to northern #gaza , the systematic destruction of livelihood capacities such as farming, herding and fishing. #doctorswithoutborders https://lnkd.in/dBpUpd2f
“We consider Israel responsible for the situation of extreme deprivation and despair which prevails in #Gaza… which led to today’s tragic events.” Our response following the news that over 100 people have been killed while waiting to receive food:

“We consider Israel responsible,” the remarkable statement from Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Canada says. The dire state of Gaza's humanitarian “situation is the direct result of the string of unconscionable decisions taken by Israeli authorities while waging this war: a relentless bombing and shelling campaign, a complete siege imposed on the enclave, the bureaucratic hurdles and lack of security mechanisms to ensure safe food distribution from southern to northern Gaza, the systematic destruction of livelihood capacities such as farming, herding and fishing.” Read the full statement. Ask yourself what is more likely: The overwhelming preponderance of humanitarian aid and human rights organizations are telling the truth; or are we to believe a partisan entity with a vested and historically demonstrated interest in obfuscating and lying about its actions (which includes murdering journalists)? Our job as journalists is to report the facts in context, without fear or favor, to help the public understand and arrive at the truth. We are not stenographers for anyone's agenda or empire. Consider why one of the world's most prominent aid agencies with a history of neutrality is making a statement like this. The answer should be self-evident: It's true.
