As a relatively new fundraising manager but a long time gift officer, I felt this in my bones. What are we actually measuring with all of these neverending metrics conversations? Often, things that mean next to nothing and take longer to compile than they are worth. When you look it what is connected to my professional success, it's hard to quantify. But I can tell you meaningful relationships are not measured in cold calls and hours worked. It is sitting with people, addressing their hopes and dreams for their philanthropy, and creating a shared vision of the future. The Revolving Door of Fundraising... Tell me if you’ve heard this story before (or in many cases lived it): I hired a Development Officer (let’s call them an Associate/Manager/Director), but they couldn’t fulfill all the duties that were asked of them, our fundraising outcomes didn’t change significantly, despite all the coaching and recommendations from our management team and Board improvement didn’t happen, and the Development Associate ultimately quit or was let go. If you haven’t experienced this you’re lucky because the average Development Officer keeps their position for about 16 months before changing jobs. Engaging “fractional” employees could be the answer. Need some external comms support but don’t need a full time hire? Looking to grow awareness, audience, and sharpen your focus in the new financial year, but keeping an eye on costs? Competing for customers, donations, volunteers and funding? Need someone to look at your advocacy and awareness plans ahead of coming state and federal elections? As the end of one financial year approaches and a new one starts, now is the best time to get in front of what you need to do. “Fractional” employees seem to be more than a passing fad on this platform and elsewhere. With an ageing population, the desire for flexibility and changes to the way people perceive or value employment, it could be here to stay. For me, I would love the opportunity to help out. The work can be a day a week on average, a handful of hours a week, 10 hours a month, a day or two a week, or something more on demand, or a quick project to start with so we can see how we work together. The type of work I do includes - media releases and media coaching, social media news posts on LinkedIn and account management, editing and contributing to annual reports and corporate publications, case studies and interviews with customers and clients to create website and other content, advocacy and stakeholder engagement. As well, I help with internal communications and announcements, crisis and issue management responses and templates and try to offer calm and experienced advice to leaders in good times and bad. Sometimes it’s worth starting with a review of communications strategy and look to better support senior executives to tell their story. How do I recruit and create a team for this project if I don't personally or professionally know the members of the project? This is the question I got from a person who joined a nonprofit cause who only has virtual meetings. Today, we outlined the actions she should do before the next group meeting: 1)Define the purpose of the committee 2) Define the mission 3) Define the vision 4) Know how it relates to advancing the organization 5) Set up a date, time, and place for an in-person meeting 6) Have contributing roles defined with titles and descriptions EX: Information Coordinator-responsible for spreadsheets. 7) Ask them to bring anyone who they may know who would like to contribute on this specific project. #teambuilding #organizing #projectmanagement #recruiting

🌟 Happy Admin Professionals Day! 🌟 Every year, the Administrative Professionals community buzzes with excitement about how to recognize the invaluable work of administrative professionals. And while these gestures are always appreciated, I've come to realize that the best gift isn't always what you might expect.
