♀️Happy International Women's Day♀️ #Iwd2024 #InspireInclusion Ladies, a day to celebrate our successes and think big! Aim for the stars.⭐ "As we know the fashion industry is propped up by women—they spend three times more on clothing than men and fill a majority of the entry level jobs. Even so, fashion has a gender equality problem. Fewer than 50 percent of well-known womenswear brands are designed by women, and only 14 percent of major brands have a female executive in charge." ✨ Who or what has inspired you to start a career in Fashion? So many women we have spoken to in the last year are rejecting the traditional signifiers of success. Evolving from money, status and power which felt like the end-game, but really was just the starting point for developing something more enduring. As women move through life investing in and leaving a legacy of doing better, being better - Gillian Ridley Whittle is just one of them. #thestellacollective #livingstartsafter40 #blindspotnomore Link: https://lnkd.in/gTw9Udj7

💫"Exploring gender-neutral fashion trends, we find a blend of progress & profit. From historical subcultures to current high-end designers, unisex clothing challenges gender norms. Yet, we must differentiate between genuine social change & fashion's exploitative nature. The industry's track record on inclusivity is mixed, so we have to stay informed & critical as we celebrate gender-free fashion. #GenderEquality #FashionForward"💃🕴️ https://lnkd.in/dPStviDP

It's an industry dominated by women, yet there is still an imbalance of power when it comes to fashion's C-suite roles. During Virginie Viard's tenure at Chanel, Chanel's fashion business grew more than twofold. Dior sales have more than quadrupled since Grazia Chiuri took over in 2016. And three of the five designers in our latest womenswear size inclusivity report were women. So why aren't there more women at the top? This week, the Vogue Business team set out to answer the question: what would fashion look like if women were in charge? Elektra Kotsoni's intro article looks at some of the obstacles for women in the industry: https://lnkd.in/eJCCtqJe Maliha Shoaib did an amazing piece looking not only at how fashion is failing working mums, but also some of the solutions companies have implemented: https://lnkd.in/ei8uBjKi Bella Webb delved into fashion's attitude to the menopause and how much menopause can impact women in the industry: https://lnkd.in/eMmcBStU Hilary Milnes and Elektra Kotsoni asked female executives for advice on navigating a career in fashion: https://lnkd.in/eKv8G6ba Madeleine Schulz dreamed of what clothing would look like if more women designed it: https://lnkd.in/evwGz5Tg And Christina Binkley examined why we tend to judge female creative directors more harshly: https://lnkd.in/exn6tN8h Well done team!

The garment business is one of the leading employers of women around the world -- 75% of garment workers are women. Yet it is not where women enjoy the same economic rights as men. Women like Gladys are showing the power of financial inclusion. #entrepreneurship. #WomenMeanBusiness #FashionWeek #WomensEconomicJustice CARE Enterprises Inc.
Thousands of miles away from New York Fashion Week, where global celebrities wear billion-dollar brands, in Ghana’s Western North Region, a little girl named Gladys sat entranced. “I used to watch fashion shows on television,” she recalls. “That gave me the interest to venture into this business.” Wearing a colorful pantsuit she both designed and made, today Gladys Adanse Bonna cuts a striking figure. The young woman boasts a thriving clothing business, catering to both men and women in her town of Sefwi-Debiso, not far from the Cote d’Ivoire border. https://ow.ly/NFWy50QAlsg
